What if we've misunderstood the Cabal

Please note right off the bat: this is an in-the-moment, typing-this-on-my-phone thread. It is also completely speculation, with no specific lore backing it up. "The Cabal blow up planets and moons just for getting in their way." That's one of the first pieces of dialog we hear about the Cabal. But you'll notice there is a significant gap in the lore concerning this topic: no destroyed planets are ever mentioned, and our solar system doesn't seem to be missing any planets. The lore also states that the Cabal appear to be running from something of great power. It's always been assumed this was the Darkness, or at least a powerful member. The Cabal are also the newest outside force to occupy our galaxy, having only just reached Mars with the very edge of their fleet. Well, that's not really true: the newest arrival to our solar system is the Dreadnaught. Let's go down the checklist, shall we? Oryx: powerful agent of the Darkness, destroys planets on a daily basis, arrives right in the heels of the Cabal. It's interesting to note that the Cabal focus all their forces on Oryx the moment he arrives, even crashing their ship into his Dreadnaught to deal a blow. They are willing to destroy a system in order to wipe him out. But don't the Guardians and the Traveller pose an equal threat? An army of undying super soldiers and their God? Why haven't he Cabal attacked us with the force they attacked Oryx. My hypothesis is that the Cabal have been fleeing from Oryx this whole time, and we have gotten their lore entirely mixed up. Basically, this super-powered, planet-destroying monster has followed hot on the heels of the Cabal for a long time, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The Cabal recorded this, and we misinterpreted the information as [i]their[/i] conquests, not Oryx's. When Oryx reached our Solar System, the Cabal threw everything at him because they were afraid, and had been for a long time. Oryx had always been their enemy, their stalker, their oppressor. TL;DR: The Cabal don't destroy planets and moons for getting in their way, they are just running from something that does (Oryx).
