Rasputin created the vex in the future to protect himself and the universe and they traveled back in time to do so?

The Vex are (could be) an ancient race of machines traveling across galaxies turning worlds into machines to help them achieve their ultimate goal. What that goal could be I have no idea.

While the time-traveling nature of the Vex may have allowed them to somehow reach these locations, it does indicate that they may have a non-Traveller origin. EDIT: Reference made during "The Nexus" strike.
