I've only done the Nightfall once and that one time I did it I got the last word. Are drops really that bad

Honestly, I've ran approx 20 nightfalls total, across 3 characters and I'm usually happy with my rewards 90% of the time. I get a lot of exotic weapons and armor that way. Then again, I've been rewarded 3 times with a universal remote. On occasion I do get crappy legendary guns, shards, or energies but that's not very often.
