The overall game wasn't [i]completely[/i] insane, but the Great Palace from Zelda 2: Link's Adventure was the single hardest level from any video game I've ever played. Most people here use The Library from Halo CE, or Sniper Alley from Halo 2 as a benchmark for hard levels, when even a mashup of the two on LASO wouldn't tread water next to the sheer Knuckle-whitening, blood boiling, hate-inducing maze of that infamous level. And just when you think you've beaten it, all hopes and illusions of finishing get shattered as Dark Link appears, bringing certain doom with him. I also have distant memories of playing dismay simulator 1988 A.K.A Ninja Gaiden.
