Took me two to four hours. Been doing hard story missions and joining up level 20 friends to help me level it up faster xD

2-4 hours is literally impossible, If you can get to 20 in 8 hours then you are extremely fast, 11-13 is the average

Yeah you still have to complete the missions for the xp to get you to 20 and that just takes time. If say 6 hours is about as quick as you can do it.

Even missions dont get u to 20, bungie expects that if you do missions alone you will get to around level 16, which is why thats the level of the strangers rifle you get from doing it. I did missions and bounties up to 2nd mission ob mars, by then was about level 15, did pvp and bounties till 18, then strikes and bounties for 20. Fastest time was 9 hours, with about 30mins afk and 40 minutes in loading screens (plus 5 minute reef cutscene)

Once 16 i focussed on bounties, and got some help with some of the harder ones, like kill 10 hive ultras/majors. I hit 20 at the end of the last story mission, was timely and nice but it wouldn't have happened without a bit of help, and doing some patrol missions as well - this was 2nd char BTW.
