I've made a few characters now. It takes me 7 hours 56 minutes (if I remembered the minutes correctly) of gameplay to hit level 20 from a new character. Note this was all at once so I only had 1 set of bounties to do.

What's your method?

Hit level 5 through story, do the bounties from the postmaster to unlock the normal bounties. Knock all of them out, run through the rest of the story on easy (since you should be a few levels above the enemies at this point), then run crucible for a bit to finish it up.
