Have you seen the Traveler? Whatever the Darkness was, it did a number to that giant moonesque object. The Hive hidden on Earth probably found one pieces somewhere and sent it back to the moon.

Even if the traveler were evil it is still rising us to fight the hive so it'd still be helping it's enemy. That just means then that the Hive is good.
