Plasma Screen HUD Burn-In

Destiny is console exclusive, which means almost all players play on a television, not a monitor. Many of these players play on plasma screens, millions in fact. The average play session of Destiny is logged by Bungie at 4 hours. I fall around that mark, and that's about all I've used my TV for lately, as I'm sure is the same for many players. This leads to a huge problem, one that may have already permanently damaged my near $3K TV, the HUD is burnt into my display. I'm a very proud owner of the "65in Panasonic VT60, and I paid a very pretty penny for it. Millions of others also playDestiny on plasmas, and the fact is no matter how "worn in" a plasma is, it is still prone to burn-in or image retention. Either can occur after a static image is left on the screen for an extended period of time, like say, playing Destiny for a few hours a day, with no other content appearing on the TV in between. From my recent average playtime, I now have a retained image of the bottom left HUD area burnt in my display; super bar, all 3 weapon slots, among blur where ammo is counted and so on. I left my TV wiping for 12 hours, and the image is still there. (Update 11/19) My TV has been wiping for almost 24 hours, and still has the HUD clearly burned in. (Update 11/20) My TV has been wiping for almost 48 hours straight. The HUD is still there, but instead of a dark gray shadow, it seems to be a tinge of pink. This is a bad sign) There is a simple solution for preventing this, and still being able to enjoy long play sessions. Battlefield 4 got this perfect right off the bat, they added the option to adjust HUD opacity in the video options. This completely stomped the possibility for image retention, and even after hundreds of hours of gameplay I never had a problem. For those who don't know, this option would make it possible to have your HUD slightly see-through so the pixels are being stimulated. This is a very big deal, and has the potential to ruin many plasmas, only from playing Destiny for an average play session, even with days in between. BUNGIE PLEASE, add a simple HUD opacity slider and put all your plasma owners at ease. Love, every Destiny player with a plasma. Please comment to get this noticed.

  • If you knew plasma burn was an issue, you should have been more proactive in protecting your screen.

    • I'm in love with my 60in Visio AQUOS, feels like playing a computer, awesome graphics, and the HUD isn't breaking out anytime soon, if it does, I just go to Amazon and a lamp or bulb that actually does all the work on a TV

        • Yeah turn in gaming mode. And contact Panasonic. They'll probably do something. This isn't a bungie problem. It's a known limitation of the technology. A technology that even Panasonic has abandoned.

            • Ignore the moronic trolls and their ignorant comments. I actually have the same exact TV and am having the same problem. I created a post the other day about it but only trolls responded. I hope Bungie reads this. Bungie, fix this.

                • I would say that this is actually your problem and not bungies. It is kind of unreasonable for bungie to change their entire game for a minority of players. It's a lot of work for them.

                • I have a 2013 model 51" Samsung plasma and never had problems with burn in. Only if i leave windows desktop on for hours on with white windows open i might see left overs but they go away quickly with normal use. I'm suprised you have run into this problem with a recent top of the range panasonic plasma which are considered the best plasmas on the market nowdays. Like others have stated maybe your settings are too "hardcore", i've set my plasma researching nerdy forums for best cinematic settings that do not oversaturate anything. Problem is you can't really blame developers for this, it is a well known issue, mainly with older plasmas though. Almost every game or tv channel has some static picture in them. I also use a pixel shifter though i don't think it does wonders, if something is a few pixels thick of white then shifting will still leaves areas unaffected by it. Well i hope your screen will return to it's former glory, plasmas ftw!

                • Why buy a plasma in the first place? I've know about this since plasmas were first around. Never owned a plasma, never will.

                • You know that plasmas are prone to do this, you know that the HUD doesn't have the option you want, and you still played long enough to cause damage... You gotta pay (literally) to play... On plasma...

                • Have a few friends that have the same issue. The HUD has been burnt into their TV for a few weeks now. Nothing helped get rid of it, at least all the solutions they tried. Best of luck to you!

                • If you get a bright, solid, white image and display it on your TV for several hours, it should take care of that problem. As a side note, turn down your brightness. lol
