What was being suggested is that even if Microsoft hadn't thrown wads of cash Bungie's way, they could have been backed by Apple, the company who ran the expo they announced Halo at, who's currently doing better than Microsoft last time I checked. Microsoft didn't do anything for them nobody else could have done; if anything Microsoft owes Bungie for making the Xbox such a success.
