That isn't its purpose. The Last Word is effectively the most dangerous close range weapon in the game, giving it range would just make other weapons obsolete. You are not supposed to use ADS with The Last Word.
well you might as well use something else because if you notice two of its best perks are hip fire related, so if The Last Word sucks for you it is strictly a user problem. It has much lower stats than most hand cannons so you might as well use The Devil You Know, Hawkmoon, Lord High Fixer etc if you are planning on using ads with a hand cannon, The Last Word is meant to be fired from the hip.
No last word is amazing, hip fire just sucks in this game period. You still get a good damage bonus while firing ads. If last word was strictly a hip fire weapon it wouldn't have and irons at all.
Well the same logic and magic goes with sniper rifles, you can hip fire with sniper rifles, doesn't mean you should. The Last Word was created with hip fire in mind, and is much more effective weapon if used that way. Sure you have to train yourself, like any specialists weapon, but it is considerably a better gun without ads.
Not sure where your statistics are but I know crits aren't capped like that, they definitely take distance into account. And Damage modifiers. I know this for a fact because shotguns damage modifiers are most certainly different, but I will check back with you on The Last Word and Thorn and give you exact damage on each gun at different ranges.
But the facts remain, The Last Word is a specialist gun, an exotic. It is meant to be hip fired at close range. It is not suitable for ADS long range fire as it loses two of its perks when you ADS, and with the current stats of The Last Word you are just capitalizing on its weaknesses. If you want to use a long range hand cannon, go for Hawkmon for #1 choice, The Devil You Know #2, or Lord High Fixer #3. If you unfortunately have xbox like myself, the best long range hand cannons are legendary as Thorn is god awful at the moment. Oh, if you managed to get a Timur's Lash, with the right perks it has great range as well.
Fatebringer, the raid hand cannon. I hear it's good, but I am not going to put something on the list I know nothing about. But chances are that thing is amazing as well.
Edit: Just to clarify rather than start a new argument, Thorn is a decent weapon PvP. But it's presence in PvE there is much to be desired averaging 400 less precision damage than most legendary hand cannons if not all of them.
