He's called "Old Dragonslayer" and his spear's description only says that his armor reminds you of one of Gwyn's knight or something, but yeah it's pretty much Ornstein. Some think it's because, since Anor Londo was an illusion, Ornstein and Smough also were.
I didn't keep any screenshots on this computer, but if you want proofs I can tell you that two early bosses are called 'Dragon Rider' and 'The Pursuer', but that's not much proof anyway.

Old Dragonslayer is Ornstein and he really wasn't that tough of a battle. He gets really aggressive but I think he lost his lightning ability. Don't know how he ended up in Dranglec but you do get his ring if you kill him. Haven't gotten anything from his soul yet though.

I never even saw his dark magic when I fought him. Had to go back and watch a vid on youtube to check. Maybe the canon way to fight in the first game is to kill smough last and when he hits Ornstein with the hammer he steals his lightning abilities. He could have survived and left to follow the princess and her giants across the sea. When he gets there he finds that he no longer is as effective without that ability and needs to find a new strength to help him along. Maybe that is how he has lived so long.
