How do you define yourself? I mean, as an individual and as a person. For example I define myself as a brewer first and foremost, not just because it's my job but because I am passionate about beer, the art of beer, and the process. A good friend of mine is a bartender for a living, but he defines himself as a musician as that is who he feels he is. So, how do you define yourself? What/who are you?

3 RepliesI've thought about this quite a bit, and came to the conclusion that I don't want to define myself. I reject the notion that I boil down to something as simple as a moniker or single sentence/paragraph descriptor. It annoys me when I see people doing that. Like people defining themselves by way of a job or hobby or sexual orientation. Those people are almost certainly more dynamic than a short descriptor and approximation. Why limit yourself to the approximation? That's not to say I won't use simple short hand descriptions to describe myself, I just reject the notion that doing so defines me, or anyone else. I don't like the notion of that sort of reductive philosophy, since its firstly not accurate, and secondly almost insulting to people who are more dynamic than a simple descriptor.
