  • Yes. If you're not on drugs then you have nothing to worry about.

No, it doesn't make any sense to deprive a poor person money just because they're on drugs. They need something to prop them up, not knock them down.

    • I said no. Reason being, I believe we should end the War On Drugs ASAP. It's huge waste of taxpayer money arresting and trying these individuals in court, then housing them and clothing them and feeding them, at the taxpayers expense. Private prisons make a fortune off of victimless drug offenses once these people get sentenced and sent off to jail. It's a shitty business all around. End the war on drugs, then drug tests won't be required.

Only if we make elected officials take regular drug tests.

      • Yes. I'd go a step further by saying that EBT shouldn't be a viable source to buy candy, alcohol, or tobacco products.

          • Everyone citing Florida is viewing the simplification and not thinking. Yes, a small percentage tested were caught. But applications dropped as well. This is because in Florida if you failed the test you had to pay for it. The druggies knew they would fail so they didn't apply.

            • In theory, sure. In practice it's too expensive and discriminatory.

                • I had been on Food Stamps, lived in adjusted income housing, and had free lunch in public schools my entire childhood. Now, my father was a pastor up until I turned 16. We were what would be considered "morally good people". Now, this is the case with most people I know who are, or were, on the same welfare programs as I was. Just everyday people trying to get by, we didn't deserve to be drug-tested and had we been, we would've been humiliated. That would signify you have no trust in "the poor" and consider them all drug-using deadweights.

Yes. I work hard for my money. And those that get a share should be tested. I want to help them, but they need to want to help themselves first. I also believe that food stamps should go through a serious overhaul. Too many people live off of these services and dont even bother to try and get off of them and support themselves. Also, if I have to be drug tested to earn money, they should be drug tested to get free money from hard working tax payers like myself.

                  • Didn't they try this in Florida? It ended being some negligible percent that tested positive and ended up costing far more money than it would have saved. I totally understand the idea and agree with it, but not at the cost of more money

                    • I don't understand how some of you are so heartless when dealing with this subject. Heck, half of you don't even care that that a small percentage uses drugs, you only seem to care that the poor people exist, and you hate them for that.

                      • Drug testing should be banned across the board.

                      • I don't see why not. I can be subject to drug tests for working. The very same work the pays for welfare. If people are doing illegal activities they should not get help from the government, the very source of legality.

                      • I dont think the answer is a clear cut yes or no. Do I think it should be available? Yes. Should it be used for everyone? No. I think testing people with red flags should be allowed but to test everyone would be a hassle and a waste of money.

                      • This is something that really annoys me. Well, welfare in general annoys me, but the liberals who want to expand welfare as well as legalizing drugs...it's not like that is going to be abused at all....which is why I say -blam!- welfare and legalize drugs.

                      • They tried this in Florida already. The problem is that it costs more money to administer the tests than is saved by forbidding drug users government care. Do I care if welfare recipients are using my money to buy drugs? Yes. Do I want to pay more to stop that? No.

                        • Yes. People who abuse drugs should not be able to live off of my money.

                        • If there's a problem with welfare recipients using the money for drugs then why not just make the money like food stamps where it can only be spent on certain goods and services?
