You can already get flying cars in some versions of Grand Theft Auto with a cheat code — but will there ever be a straight-up futuristic version, set in some kind of science fiction megalopolis? Rockstar Games VP Dan Houser called the prospect "tempting," but added, "We will do it the very second we have an idea."
Talking to the French site Ecrans last November, Houser added:
One of our strengths is the consistency of the game world. We're not necessarily the best writers in the world, but we [know] how to write a video game.
When we decided to make a Western, it was because we knew we had something to say," he went on. "We have no interest in going into science fiction for the sake of flying cars and laser guns. The best science fiction stories are those that speak about the human condition.
So while this idea is very tempting and, by definition, anything's possible in a videogame, we lack the essential thing for the moment: a good reason.

Source.
So, a sci-fi GTA isn't necessarily coming soon. However, Rockstar is open to the idea if they come up with a good idea. Prior to a few years ago, nobody probably would have thought a Wild West version of GTA would happen or be good, but then we got Red Dead Redemption. I think it's a good bet that it will happen sometime in the near future (maybe not immediately following GTA V, but soon).
Do you think this is a good idea? Is there anything you would specifically like to see or not see?
