I've been frequenting IRC for a long time now, channels dedicated to bungie.net or some private groups I'm in. What would be nice would be some way to integrate these onto the site in a way that isn't shit.
I'd like some form of group live chat available in private groups, however, I have no idea what to suggest in order to do this.
Any ideas? Bungie's own server? Link external servers?
The interface would probably be best as a window where you can access different channels in the same place rather than switching between groups.
P.S. If you like the idea please "like" the idea and reply for those who haven't learnt how to get off the "popular" page

there is a reddit group (irc.snoonet.org, channel #destinythegame) a bungie dedicated IRC would be fantastic. Has there been any update? since this post is pretty old....

I've used IRC for many of my groups in the past, and it did always add another level of interaction into the group which helped the community. That being said, the biggest barrier to get this to work is making it easily available to the masses, and IRC, while simple, isn't something everyone understands perfectly. Integrating it into groups would help make it more readily available, and would knock out some of the set up required for individuals as well. *like*

I was thinking maybe something like the fb group chats.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY think B.Net needs at the very least the same amount of Private group customization as it had before, if not more. Well, at least I hope that's just something they haven't yet rolled out. Some groups have taken to this newfangled hotness, and some have seemed to vanish completely...
-
GREAT idea, I was thinking of how this could work earlier actually... I think you should either be able to have a live chat in groups, or with other specific users if you're friends with them. Everyone would be equipped with a "block" option if the person is just trying to spam, etc., and if too many people blocked a user due to their IM's they could be banned for X amount of hours/days.I think this would be absolutely incredible.

Edited by stellarstead: 1/12/2013 6:18:06 AMTerrible. I don't want any more of you kids in my IRC, and IRC and it's role in the Bungie community is fine as it is. IRC isn't something you try to force on a community, especially one as dormant as this one where anyone who really wants to IRC already knows where to go and how to get there. Also Nerd didn't actually say what you quoted him as saying! You're terrible for that.
-
Well, we already have the new IM feature between two people, so why not just make it for multiple people?
-
It takes a lot from the forum, but if groups really wanted a chat they can take it off site.
-
Does it need to be IRC? What about a standalone Java chat feature that group Admins can turn on and off. I don't object to IRC, I just haven't visited/used it for years.
-
This would basically kill private forums.
-
That would be cool, but no one wants to talk to me.
-
As a member that uses IRC frequently for a specific group it would be nice. I do think we should be able to connect to external servers but there should be a main Bungie server.
-
They have to add SOMETHING to improve private groups with all they've taken away. Not a bad idea.
-
So, basically a chat system for private groups, in addition to the forum? I think that sounds like a good idea. I'm sure a lot of groups already use an outside chat system for quicker communication.

Me like!

Edited by Ahhsenberg: 1/11/2013 6:38:37 PMI never saw the point of having IRC on Bnet when you already have forums as well as a messaging system, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to have yet another form of communication.
-
... I'll bring it up. I think that'd be really neat personally! On the subject, do you who are long time group owners have any ideas or suggestions about what else you'd like to see improved in groups? Titles for sure... anything else?
-
I like the idea.
-
That would be neat, but would users be allowed to connect to different servers? Or only the Bungie server? I imagine this could create problems for existing channels if they have to move to another server.
