Am i missing something? Can anyone help me locate an exact time?
Styx II tells us three things we can actually trust: the civilization fought the Witness after its creation, other civilizations had already fallen before them, and they were the first enemy ever to drive the Witness back this badly. They pursued it into its own strange memory-realm and then, at the moment they could apparently finish it, offered peace and “another way.” The Witness exploited that mercy and destroyed them.

What it doesn't tell us is whether this happened before or after Lubrae, Rhulk, the Ahslid, Nezarec, the Psions, Fundament, or the Hive. The Hive-throne-world comparison in the entry doesn't date the battle because the narrator is recounting it retrospectively.

As far as I know, the lore entry is the only reference to this entity we know of. It is so far back in time, and with the entity destroyed, it doesn't matter in the present. I can only guess it could be before the Witness started finding Disciples and subjugated the Worms. Something had to have happened to persuade the Witness its pursuit couldn't be done on its own, and this encounter might have been it. It would be a treat to see the distant past of Destiny revisited at some point, but it will remain a mystery until then.

1 ReplyThe problem is that with any timeline involving the Ishtars, you have to be suspicious.

11 RepliesOr what timeline? It's meant to be subversive and mysterious - the narrative.
