Shotguns aren’t really that overtuned because they’re only useful in a short range. The game just has really good movement and the most played maps have small to medium lanes that make it easy to shotgun rush people. Plus the maps have not changed in years so the gameplay is very predictable to most people. The best weapons to counter shotguns is to use a precision shotgun or a rapid fire fusion. A precision shotgun that has threat detector, opening shot, accurised rounds will corkscrew rifling or barrel shroud with a handling or range masterwork is the best roll possible. Matador, the garden of salvation shotgun, and the Kepler shotgun are pretty good options. Rapid fire fusions with under pressure, high impact reserves or closing time have been my go too for a while to shut shotgunners down. The garden of salvation raid one is a pretty good one to use. Most people use shotguns like a defense weapon, to get the early kill, or to clean up lone guardians. Like say someone takes damage and they run away. They will usually run to cover and pull out their shotgun behind a corner to ambush their pursuer. Usually by this point both players have their shot gun out so it comes down to who’s better. Another example is say you’re behind cover yourself and you see your radar indicate someone is approaching. You whip out your shotgun get a quick kill then swap back to your primary. The current ammo system makes in near impossible to maintain shotguns anymore. The best ways to counter shotguns in general is to play range and stay close to a teammate to team shoot with. Pulse rifles especially 450s and rapid fire pulses are pretty good at this. SMGs are pretty good to counter shotgunners too if you can hit your shots and time the kill right. If someone is just absolutely trying to shotgun rush you then just back up while shooting them because you create more distance for them to run and make their shotgun less effective. If you shoot someone and they flee to cover never run straight up to it. They are more than likely camping a corner with their shotgun out. Best way to get a shotgun to the face. Try to rotate around that cover by looking at where he dipped into cover and move left or right to get a better firing angle. I know it sounds weird but it works lol. If you absolutely have to go into a tight corner where a shotgunner absolutely resides then DO NOT JUST WALK in there. Try to peak a corner to bait out their shot, slide into the corner to get a small advantage on them, or do a sprint jump around the corner. These will give you an advantage because most people are tuned to aim chest/head height so messing up this is your best bet. Some tricks to try also are for warlocks try using Icarus dash to create distance when you rush or get rushed or pop a rift and play in it because that small amount of health it gives can mess up the follow up punch most people do if they don’t kill you with a shotgun. Astrocyte verse if you can get used to it then the blink is really good to ambush people. If you want to be really annoying stasis warlock with cold snaps and the rift fragment that casts a freezing pulse is so good. For hunters stompees and jumping are really good for countering shotgunners because most people don’t look up lol so if you time it right you’ll get easy kills. Smoke bombs are also really good because if you time it right you’ll can get and easy kills. For titans you have the best options here. Void titans can spam barricades with bastion for overshields and arc titans can use knockout for easy melee kills and juggernaut for that overshield when sprinting. Acdfeedback fence is really good because it makes people regret meleeing you especially if you pair it with a glaive. I hope this helps you against the shotgunners lol. Good luck out there.

Maybe I’m just that bad[/quote] Avoid tight corners and blind spots, play a bit more range and you’ll have better odds. It’s really tough to give advice on this one because it’s more-or-less something you just adapt to over time. Especially M&K players, being in their face is usually an easy kill for them if they have a shotgun like Felwinter’s Lie with a range configuration. You’re not bad, a lot of people just hate actually using primary 90% of the time unless they’re forced to. It was a massive issue until they changed how Special Ammo works; you’d only ever see snipers and shotguns, ESPECIALLY in Trials of Osiris.

Not bad but they did change things up. I used to hate hand cannon and shitguns but learned to enjoy them. Granted I stick to 180 hand cannons only but it's something different for me to use.

Also use one, yourself. I mostly use shotguns/ sidearms. With a sidearm you can mostly easily counter a shotgun.

Just keep your distance. I'm running a service revolver/Misfit combo that works great at distances. If you don't have a Misfit, just use a Riposte (same gun meta). Don't get too close!

Get a good sidearm with Precision Instrument, and just always expect everyone to have a shotgun, so that you're always keeping your distance. If you get one with good enough stats that you can put Icarus on it, whenever you take a corner with an enemy around it, jump up into the air to round the corner and shoot down on them. And if an Ape comes running at you, most sidearms can burn them down before they make it to you. Edit- Heliocentric Compact Defender Forgiveness Can all roll with Precision Instrument.

Maybe try to use a sidearm as your secondary weapon? I use one and even though I'm pretty mediocre, it works relatively well for me in close quarters.
