iPad itself is on the internet no problem, it's just the app not working.

If the iPad itself is online normally but the Companion App still will not connect, that does sound more like an iOS app-side issue than a general account or internet problem. If possible, please include: the exact error message the app shows whether the app is fully updated on the iPad whether signing out and back in changes anything whether deleting and reinstalling the app changes anything your iPadOS version whether this happens on Wi-Fi only or across multiple networks The exact error message and iPadOS version would be the most useful details to narrow this down.
