Game crashes on launch or before character selection | Steam
Is anyone else having this issue? This happened just today after reset. No problems playing on my PS5 but impossible to play on Steam. Any fix for this?

This started to happen to me after I got the shader, however, I never equipped it. I deleted the shader, have changed loadouts on DIM multiple times and still get stuck at the same screen every time.

4 RepliesFound the fix. Get on Destiny Item Manager and put something other than the Mida Multi-Tool in your primary slot. The new ornament is messing up the character loading process (I'm guessing some integral data for the weapon ornament is unfinished). I was able to get into the game no problem, I was even able to play with the new ornament with no issue. I tested by re-equipping it, closing and re-launching the game, and the issue started again. So until this is fixed, just make sure you don't log out while having the Mida equipped with the new ornament on it. And if you do, the fix is simple, just throw on something else in DIM.

Edited by Mistr_Cookie: 1/21/2026 3:14:46 AMyeah i put on the new marathon shader and mida and my game kept crashing, when i used dim to switch to another loadout it worked, so im assuming its the marathon shader or mida when it loads ur character crashing you (Im also on a gaming Laptop to)

I have the same issue on steam. Can't sign in on my intel desktop computer, but i can on my laptop which uses AMD. My dad uses AMD as well and he has no issue. I don't know if that is related or not. I've tried the following with no luck: - Rolling Back Drivers - Updating Drivers - Verifying Game Files - Reinstalling The Game - Turning Off All Overlays - Running As Admin

4 RepliesSame problem on Epic Games. In my case, I had the MIDA multitool with the new skin equipped. I was able to get into the game, but first I used DIM and changed the equipped weapon to another one. I hope this helps someone else.

Yep, I'm crashing on PC. The game was working fine earlier today but I suspect it has to do with the free Marathon shader from Eververse. I applied it to my main and haven't been able to log in since. It crashes immediately at the character select screen.

This just happened for me too, I was able to get on after they patched eververse to claim my Marathon stuff then got off, now I can't log back on. Crashes as it's loading the outlines of the character slots. Bungie please fix! PC - Steam

Same issue. Played earlier today, got the cosmetics and equipped em. Tried booting up this evening and yeah I'm crashing every time the character select screen tries to load. Glad it's not just me, at least.
