Don’t revive tokens go against the fact we have ghosts?

I would like Bungie to please explain lore wise why our revives are limited in certain activities when we have our ghost who should be able to revive us an infinite amount of times. Maybe Bael should have tried to trap us in a portal activity, he might of won then.

  • It’s been over ten years and they haven’t even explained the resurrection process anyway. They really don’t care. The writers now are just fans writing fanfiction.

    • Maybe, your ghost serves a higher purpose *cough* $$$$ *cough* and is paid per revive? Bungie wasn't meeting the financial expectation of their new overlords so they had to do some cost cutting with the ghost team also. [spoiler]I'll show myself out of this discussion[/spoiler]

    • It’s to do with the light and dark. The enemy’s we fight typically go to where darkness manifests. It blots out the light. Without light (our power from the traveler) ghosts cannot resurrect us. That’s guardian’s shtick on why we are resurrected in most places but not everywhere. We aren’t immortal we can die, just look at how in a previous season the drifter when he was lost was being resurrected by his ghost over and over after dying of starvation. It’s just not common knowledge in the game anymore.

    • This is Bungie creating artificial difficulty. Forcing us into nonsensical gameplay by utilizing pointless reasons within the story like how these new zones prevent our ghost from healing us so we have to pick up these stupid orbs, but don't worry, our health makes us tankier, except in actual combat where ads and invaders can one shot us, and AOE damage is multiplied

    • It actually used to kinda make sense. There were only a few "respawn restricted" areas in certain difficult activities. Places where the enemies were so powerful or numerous that their presence & defenses literally interfered with our Ghost's ability to revive us on the battlefield. And killing a champion would sort of "redirect" some of the energy on the field, giving our Ghost more strength to revive us with. But now that the portal forces us to run everything on increasingly higher difficulties, this lore no longer makes any sense. There are no more "normal" missions versus difficult missions. Every single activity in the portal forces you to face enemies that out-power you (or else get a bad grade & crappy loot). The entire frikkin portal has become one big "respawn restricted" zone.

      • Bungie cares not for canon, continuity or logic. Their primary drivers are, can we monetise it and can we maximise playtime.

      • Maybe the portal was created by the witness, a zone where you’re suffering constantly with deltas, feeling underpowered and limited revives.

        • Ghosts get tired of reviving us....if we suck that bad we need to update our resumes and be a fry cook instead of a guardian....apparently we love ramen cause its everywhere in the tower so there's job security....js... /sarc

        • It’s just gameplay. There isn’t a lore reason, it’s just to make the video game feel more like a video game.

          You are totally right, in the lore ghost can revive us anytime, except in certain area. Maybe the secret name for this season is, the season of no revives.

          Simple answer: Bungie read in a lore entry they made up, and never published, that each time they resurrect us they get a tiny bit more pissy. By the time we actually need them, they just dont want to. Again, this can all be found in a lore entry Bungie made up and never told anyone about, but still use as a fundamental for their encounter design theory. Edit: The more you know! 🌈

        • It's like many games. It's there for gameplay reasons not lore. Why can the Chief/Arbiter suddenly resurrect? Why can the vault hunters come back to life? Why are turn based rpgs turn based? Why are there extra life pickups in Doom? I think you get the point. The res tokens are almost 100% just a none lore mechanic.

        • Revive tokes there for the “challenge„ but they're more like annoying mechanics just like champions like take the Coil for example where if someone joins after the activity started then that player spwans dead and that's -1 token and although you still can buy tokens but if someone joins with one tokens left amd somehow dies then there go s the whole run What about champions? We nuked the Witness but we can't bypass barrier's with our super? At least make a small lore about it and it would be acceptable

        • It’s the same logic which makes us go back and forward to destinations to hand in bounties or talk to someone. Like interstellar communication is somehow too difficult

        • Its meant for players to not be a liability all the time when their teammates play to die. Even ghosts get tired if resurrecting your -blam!-
