High value salt mines.
Lets face it guys . In order to come anywhere close you need that damn high value target and if you're like me you're probably really fn tired of trying. It is purely rng on when it pops up and no super is going to kill it. That's merely rng as well. So everyone enjoy completing this -blam!- with 5 minutes to go just isnt enough for bungie.

I'm 550 and run salt mines with literally the highest negative modifiers multiplyer that the game allows, finish with 6 minutes left and STILL can't get top 1% because of that stupid HVT. That is the most annoying crap ever

This literally makes players just wait till last minute to bother going for score. At which point if you thought you were done, you thought wrong. Bronze, silver, gold, and diamond ratings should have a set score, if you have met the score threshold you should be safe and not need to go beyond that. This is the biggest issue with the event overall. Also there are drones you can shoot as well, this should be the same score bonus if completed as the HVT, giving players more than just 1 way to meet that goal. I ran it killing every drone and had 5m left, this did absolutely nothing to affect the score which it honestly should since it's a bonus side objective similar to killing an HVT.

2 RepliesFor this event they should make it always spawn. It’s stupid that you need the right HVT, to fly through the thing, and the right challenge. And this is all coming from someone currently sitting in that 1%… idk for how long though…

I just did another long boring a** run of The Salt Mines and am still stuck on 70 points. These guys have lost their damn minds. Player population has plummeted and they roll this out? LIke I'm going to sit here and grind for days to get that helmet? No thanks =D

1 ReplyWhile he's not there all the time I still feel like he's not that uncommon - perhaps two out of five times. Anyone know if the bonus missions differ in value btw? Like, are X ability kills worth as much as kill X enemies? I just got back into the top 1 % but I feel like it wont last long so I need to maximize everything.

3 RepliesThats exactly what Bungie aimed for and got. Make the goalpost movable so players have to keep replaying the same damn mission ad infinitum to get the 1% score. Very clever way of boosting player numbers without providing any new content other than a skin and emblem. And people fell for it.

9 RepliesI dont mind the rng on it appearing but the tiny amount of time you get to kill it is ridiculous. I killed it on the 3rd time it spawned but it took a lot of killed runs in between. Really dumb.

I don’t know how many times I tried on two accounts to get the most wanted to spawn and got it once on a bad run. A guy on Reddit said 57 times and still not spawning for him. Most of us know where it spawns and that you have to delete it quickly some people still don’t know it spawns on the bottom of the rock room right before crate hallway, and last anchor. Full throttle heavyweight with sword is what I used the one time I found it. When grinding to 550 when salt mine was the first solo op that gave you an extra gear drop option it would spawn around 8-10 runs pretty consistently, but now it doesn’t seem to exist. Somebody posted that if you don’t have side objective finished when you get there it helps it spawn but I haven’t tried that yet.

Yea you need heavy burst damage to beat it. I use song of flame to let my weapons bypass his shield.

3 RepliesJeez finally I just got top 10%. Used bonk titan, all bows, no revives etc. Completed the side challenge of 10 precision kills AND the high value target finally appeared and I killed it. It gave me 3.1 million and top 10% which is enough to get that dang helmet ornament. My power level is around 522 so I guess to get top 1% you need to be 550 or near it. I did everything you could do and barely got top 10%

2 RepliesDestiny needs to understand that this score is unreachable. As a professional solo with all top modifiers and even killing the vanguard within having still 5mins on the timer, only gets the high score of 3mil. Somehow the top 1 is passed that? Either cheaters broke the score or that they are allowing the score to randomly become an unreachable score. To me anyone that gets top 1 90% of them are pretty much cheating the score. THATS really happening here.

2 Replies3.35 mil yesterday… now it’s 3.4 just to make the top 1%. I don’t know what else I’m supposed to do to boost my score. Everything is boosted as much as possible I do every objective possible (including hvt and drones) and 6 minutes left on the clock. It’s just stupid

I’m trying to get top 10% and can’t do it. I’m on ultimate, put on modifiers etc and I can only get 2.1 million. My power level is 521. Same issue with proving grounds. Only get 2.2 million. I got top 10% for crucible. Just need one more top 10 and I’ll have the points for the helmet. Oh well I guess

I’ve noticed the buff modifiers don’t hurt your score anymore, not sure if that’s always been the case, but with full throttle and solar surge I was able to use hammers to take out mine The rng part is still garbage though

Same here, I saw it once in all my runs, but I’m beginning to give up on salt mine, way too many competition there. Top 1% threshold is 3.3mils at lest last time I checked. Without the HVT with the hardest mods, new gear, pressure cooker, Brawm, and going flawless with time left I got only 2.7mil.
