New Warlock Exotics and bad Trend.

Is it just me, or has Bungie been releasing really poor Warlock Exotics recently? With the advent of Eunioa, and now the new Helmet I’ve noticed that Warlock Exotics ever since Revenant have been rather Boring, despite their strength. For example, Eunioa. What does Eunioa functionally do? It’s buffs Helion… but that’s sort of all it does. There’s nothing really unique about Eunioa. No way to interact with the exotic beyond just putting it on. Compared to the exotics that released along with it, which both implement a form of Skill Expression, and reward the player with interacting with the exotic beyond just its base function. The Titan exotic has a perfect recall, and the Hunter exotic rewards you for catching your Rope Dart. And now we have the new exotics, and not only is the new Warlock helmet comparatively boring in function, having no major interactions beyond preexisting synergies, but it’s made worse when it’s limited to only being available on Strand and Prismatic, as it only works with Strand Supers equipped. I understand making it so that some benefits are locked behind having a matching super, similar to how Vesper of Radius only blinds while an arc super is equipped, but this just feels poor in design philosophy. On top of that, limiting it to just Rift is even more harsh. That tangent aside, why is it warlocks haven’t been given an interesting exotic to interact with in recent years. The last truly unique exotic we got was Mataiodoxia, which while being a buff to Arcane Needle, has a bunch of unique functions that make the way it interacts with the game more diverse than simply just placing down a rift or equipping a specific aspect. It’s just… disappointing is all. I wish we had more diverse exotics. Warlocks aren’t lacking in power. That’s not my issue. But we are kind of lacking in fun. Having these buddies shoot for us isn’t fun. It removes what interactions we can have with the game. Buffing a specific ability isn’t fun. Creating new interactions and new abilities is fun. And look, what I would consider basic exotics, like Vesper of Radius, which just buffs you’re Rift can still allow for unique builds if you find the right interactions, but limiting the Exotic based upon your super instantly limits the number of interactions you can have. And that’s disappointing.

  • It's ok, nobody is gonna bother using it, and once they see that on paper they'll feel stupid. Not once have warlocks EVER asked for more rift exotics, and frankly whoever was in charge of designing these new ones needs to be put in the corner and never allowed to make exotics again.
