With everything that's going on at Bungie, with Destiny 2, and the state of the game it's easy to point a finger at Bungie for everything that is wrong with the game at this moment and for a long time now...
So I wanted to speak on another serious issue that I believe also has a lot to do with the state of the game and that issue is us....
The Destiny 2 community especially in these forums can be more than toxic...
Now don't get me wrong I have met some of the best people you would hope to meet in this lifetime and yes right here playing D1 & D2 but not everyone in this community is about good times...
They will more than likely expose themselves in the comments section...
Why?
Why are you guys here?
I was reading through a few posts yesterday and there was one of a guardian celebrating finally making it to 550 everyone except for one person replied about the actual game...
There's always one who just had to be an azzhole with their reply...
They didn't voice their opinion about the game they decided to personally attack the op...
I decided to look the player up and they hadn't played the game since early 2024...
Wtf!!!
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that as long as we have people like this in our community it doesn't matter what Bungie does about improving Destiny and the state of the game....
I don't see it ever being as good or as fun as it was in the past again....
I guess for those of us who still love Destiny and hope Bungie can get their shi@ togeher
have no choice but to hope for the best...
Ok, some of you really did not grasp the point of my post...
1. I'm only talking about the game and not our personal lives.
2. I never questioned if Bungie was reading or even cared about our post...
3. I never complained or spoke about people and their personal opinions about the state of the game...
4. What I do have a problem with and what I did point out was the personal attacks on players that have nothing to do with Bungie or the state of the game.
5. Some of you put absolutely no effort into reading and comprehending people's posts you just run to the reply section and start rambling off personal attacks...

1 ReplyBungie stopped making a game worthy of a community once they started emphasizing content that gave us reasons to not play with each other.
-
1 ReplyNo you are not apart of the problem. I stopped playing ages ago. I was a destiny player since d1 alpha so before I get the “why are you here” I look in every now again to see if it’s worth jumping back in. It’s not. The higher ups at bungie have lost sight of what players actually want. They believe it’s better to create engagement in their product by creating a slog of a grind for power. Back with D1 regardless of power level I played because the actual content was fun not because I could get a bit of gear that was one point higher

1 ReplyEdited by Hunter_Umbra: 11/9/2025 8:17:12 PMPlenty of ways to gather genuine feedback from actual consumers and Bungie has not visited any of those ideas. The community is what Bungie made it. It was only a matter of time until the hubris of riding Halo’s coattails would catch up with them. The only way Destiny as a franchise survives is if Bungie rebrands.

1 ReplyThis community absolutely has a toxic side to it. However I’d still say 90% of the time that the anger and bile that comes out of the community is very much because of the absolutely woefully and inept decision making from bungie.
-
1 ReplyAbsolutely. I read an article about this year's ago, bungie weaponised the community against itself. They publicly post excuses why they don't/can't do things, other companies stay quiet if they can't do something. An example is saying we can't increase vault storage, because of old gen limitations. Seems genuine right? But the result is some people complain about vault space on here, Reddit, twitter, & you'll see 50 people replying saying it's because of old gen, bungie are doing their best, defending a megacorp like they're defending an old crush. They increased vault storage btw, on old gen, when they had a dlc to sell 😆 Remember the 'we have to remove paid content because the game is too big'. Well it was 98gb back then - it's currently 145gb & last year it hit 195gb, & they arent removing content anymore. So what happened? Anyone asks were their paid content went, people still defend it with its in the terms of service, you don't own it you rent it, games getting too big. Yup, yet the same goes for every other game & they don't remove content. It's actually quite clever. They get players defending bad practices & they get increased social media interactions & publicity. It's also kinda low

1 ReplyBungie has made this community toxic by the constant lying, tone deaf nerfs, and corporate greed. It’s clear they don’t actually play their own game when Joe couldn’t kill an overload champion. Could the community flip the switch and become positive. Sure, but it starts at the top. Bungie needs to make changes. Actions speak louder than words, and until I see some changes I’ll be making Pete parsons jokes constantly.

You have a good point. I stopped using lfg a long time ago after too many negative experiences. I would make it clear if I wasn’t experienced with certain parts of an activity. But I got tired of someone kicking off because I wasn’t meeting their expectations of what I should be doing. I moved to playing solo, and my playtime and investment in the game have dwindled away over time. -
3 RepliesAll Bungie has done is lie all year.
-
2 RepliesThere are a small group on these forums who go out of their way to disrupt people’s feedback posts…. Usually through troll comments or stat shaming….
-
No we are not just us talking about this -blam!- keeps them in business. They suck right now and until they fix what they broke they gonna continue to suck. You don’t need a paper to understand that. BUNGIE BEING GREEDY ALWAYS ENDS IN THEIR FAILURE. The only thing that will kill destiny is bungie themselves and they are doing it without remorse
-
1 ReplyYes, I believe so. Back in the day you made a product and hoped enough people liked/loved it and hopefully enough did. Nowadays they want to make games for eVeRyOnE….NO…it will not work, it has shown it will not work and people don’t like people…so….make a product and hope enough people like it. No one will even create a game where everyone loves…period.
-
1 ReplyNo, they don't read the forums.
-
1 ReplyNah. Ultimately it lands squarely on Bungie for the state of the game and community. Lack of social features and reasons to engage with other players will cause players to be isolated and then rely heavily on things like LFG to complete activities. Lots of the changes Bungie have made have left the playerbase bitter and miserable, you can even see this whenever they announce a change the first response is "so whats the catch?" because Bungie for the longest time always had some Monkey's Paw with changes that the community just expects the changes to make the game worse. At this point there is no "getting their crap" together for Bungie, that ship has sailed a long time ago for them to do so. General perception of Destiny is "that game that steals content from you" and Bungie has done very little to deal with that problem. All I would tell you is to prepare for after Renegades to get a post similar to what New World got.
-
1 ReplyShort answer: no. Plenty of good games have awful communities and still manage to be excellent. The reality is Bungie has made a lot of bad decisions that pushed revenue and engagement metrics in the short term but screwed them in the long term and now they're paying for it.

18 RepliesYes and no. Yes, because of the toxicity from all sides. Those that consistently glaze or defend Bungie, those that haven’t played in forever and hate Bungie, those that still play and hate Bungie and the elitist 🫏 🕳️’s that tell us everything is easy and the game should be harder. No, because at the end of the day, Bungie have -blam!--d up so badly that they have killed the goose that laid the golden egg. Their lack of creativity and ability to balance whatever they put into the Portaloo have driven the biggest section of the playerbase away. This increase in difficulty is still happening and had been happening since Lightfall. Don’t get me wrong, power creep is real but the most difficult content in the Portaloo is over-tuned horribly in some areas. The Conquests seem fine, but Pinnacle Ops??? In short if Bungie had followed the example of DE with Warframe, we’d be singing their praises and worshipping them. Maybe not 🤣, but you get the point. Quite frankly I want the game to be better but I honestly can’t see how this current-day Bungie pulls it off. Renegades will be their last chance. I don’t think it’s going to end well for this game, Bungie or the dedicated players that still play. But we can hope, right?

1 ReplyYeah there are toxic gamers but Bungie made the choices not us .

1 ReplyThe state of the game has no connection to the forum. While people at Bungie probably read some posts here at the forum, they have long project plans to follow and they can't turn direction on a dime. The state of the game depends on so many other things like leadership, money, the layoffs and more. The negativities on the forum reflects many of those issues. Many people have loved this game, played it for years and put money into it. When the game started to turn south for many people, they got frustrated and sad to see that. Where can they speak up about it? Here at the Bungies forums. But sadly, here and at so many other places on the Internet, there are disrespectful people. I've met them here. Fortunately, I've also met respectful and nice people here, too.

5 RepliesEdited by The-IIID-Emp1r3: 11/9/2025 5:34:02 PMNo not my problem. For example, unrelated.. but still: We still load into the tower wing on the wall since vanilla D2, VANILLA D2, why is the tower still not fixed? Why are the other towers (Bannerfall is one, left deserted post fight with fallen) retconned into being nonexistent when they can be seen along the walls in D1.
-
1 Replywell Bungie is certainly not listening to us when it comes to what needs to be fixed or changed I dont blame people for being negative on these forums, even tho Bungie themselves hardly check these forums
-
1 ReplyPeople could be using different accounts or have their D2 stats hidden. I have a bigger issue with people claiming that everything is fine but then it turns out that they're only playing a FOTM spec in solo ops.
-
1 ReplyI just read something very similar on Reddit..... Very similar. What a coincidence. You're right as well.
-
1 ReplyI think a core problem lies with live-service games in general. Before this genre was created, people either played a game or they didn't; sometimes there was disappointment, but the game was made as the studio envisioned it. Now we have games that are changed constantly to satisfy the demands of players who seem to believe they're made-to-order for each of them like a sub from Sheetz.
-
3 RepliesAre you lost? Do you go out and meet actual people? There are azzholes everywhere, not just in the Bungie community.
-
4 RepliesThere’s lot of people on here who don’t play but still use the forums. I feel like it’s a mix of wanting to see the game fall because Bungie deserves it but also some hope that their old favorite game makes a comeback. Unfortunately, unless Bungie does some No man sky level of free updates over years, they’re not going to get a comeback.
-
2 RepliesI'm fully onboard with active players voicing their frustrations, what gets me are (like you said) the people who come to these forums after not playing for years, it seems like a lot of folks are just eager to dance on what they think is Bungie's grave. "See? I was right to quit! All you people still having fun are the problem, actually!" I don't know how big an influence these people have, either on Bungie or on the community as a whole, but I admit I'm getting tired of it. And again, this is not about active players venting frustrations about the game they're actively playing, I think that's fine. Hell, it's necessary! It's about the quitters who just drop back into the forums for the occasional "I told you so!" Meanwhile, to your other point: Hope is good, hope sustains, it's optimism that'll kill you. Bungie has made enough good changes to the sore spots of EoF that I'm cautiously hopeful for Renegades, and I'm not going to give that hope up until I actually get my hands on the game and try it for myself.

1 ReplyI haven’t played D2 for well over a year, but I still play D1 and I’m still a fan of D2. I don’t think being a current player of D2 is necessary to be here, but I understand the frustration with people only coming back to stir up trouble.
