It’s been an honor, Guardians

Well guys it looks like it could actually happen. We’ve reached a point where we are lower than CoO levels in terms of Population. A population point that the current Studio head, Justin Truman, stated that D2 was about 5 weeks from shutting down back in CoO. It looks like CrossPlay is the only thing keeping the game running along with the much expanded Everworse store. And yet we have heard nothing from Tyson Green, no State of the Game blog, no Roadmap, vague and tone deaf TWAB after TWAB whilst this game continues to get worse every week. Many of us told you how bad the DLC EoF looked and how poorly the ideas of the Portal, World Tiers, the excessive grind etc would be received. But oh no, Bungie knew best. Let’s face it, you’ve only ever produced your best work when another company has held your feet to the fire and made you cook. I hope Sony do exactly that and burn those Bungie tootsies good until you metaphorically squeal. Although this time I think you’ve burnt too many of your loyal player base over the years, with this rollercoaster ride of a game, to pull off another phoenix from the flames act. Just in case it is the end, it’s been real. Thank you to everyone I’ve played with on here over the years, but a big thank you to my current clan and my old ones and my good friends. You know who you are.

  • For some reason, I installed D2 on my console yesterday and updated all the DIM and D2 apps with the hope of reigniting the flame with new content. The last time I played was almost a year ago (or something like that) when the HELM crashed on a planet.  It took me one mission to feel the disappointment of this game, but even then, I managed to finish the mission and head back to the tower. As a 2015 D1 player, like many others, I can not enjoy this new content that feels stale on day 1. The community is gone. Most of my friends quit this game and haven't been online for a year. The clan I was part of had 500 active players, and now it is just 2 players looking for players on lfg.  Raids are still a lfg mess. Given the small community, it's a pointless activity to get a group of people who will want to bash out complex mechanics for fun. D2 is not a Mario game, which is played by people for fun. And if you have 6 people who have an IQ above Mario Kart racing game, then there are more fun activities to do than this dull game. As much as I love my favourite D2 content creators, I feel like their influence is also partly to blame for the downfall of this game. This is quite visible now. Everything's a grind fest or build fest or a "play with my stream" fest. All of this caters to content creators viewer count. I appreciate why Sony will be interested in this number for some KPI, but that's not useful for an average gamer. Lots of mixed videos on the state of game vs. build vs. play with my stream just sums up the game. Maybe D2 is a game that should be enjoyed with a good community. But, Bungie, being Bungo, made no efforts to make one. Compare this to Warframe or D&D community, which carries the game through ups and downs. I bet even Forza or GTR community is better 🤷  I have the annual pass and next expansion bundle, but I uninstalled and moved back to Cyberpunk, BF, Skate, and various other games for casual/average gamers. Even playing Doom, Gears, and Civilization feels better than this.  Bungie is what Nokia was. They lost it by being arrogant and ignorant.
