Base Game Y1 Destiny 2 was nettercthan what we have now with the portal and lack of strong DLC. Here's why ⬇️
Weapons across the board were more balanced than they are today. (PvP especially)
We were still getting new strikes frequently
Power was grindy, but not as bad
Exotics felt exotic
We had 3 whole other planets, many story missions (Now all vaulted, even pvp maps)
List could go on and on but I'd be here all day

Yes, having static rolls on guns makes things balanced. Doesn’t mean it’s fun. Yes, trading default strike updates for seasonal slop activities was a bummer. Instead of being a defender of the caldera mines, I was a public defender. Exotics have only gotten more unique and powerful as the years go by. There are more PvP maps in the game now than year one and more destinations. How was the game better in year 1?

D2 year 1 tried to be a competitive focused game but it wasn't popular with a majority and even the minority who wanted it were getting bored because there were better games if they wanted something slow like d2 year 1. D2 Edge of Fate slowed the game down overall by like 20% and people seem to be hating the new gameplay in combination with the bad content. Though even if we don't look at the gameplay side and how people hated it, if we look at content d2 year 1 only wins on like 1 single thing. The amount of new locations. In terms of actual playable content the portal is far more filled even without looking at anything older dlcs had to offer. "Exotics felt exotic" almost every exotic in d2 year 1 can be described as "Legendary but with an enhanced legendary perk! Wohoo!" Like legend of Acrius was literally just a shotgun with penetration rounds. there was almost nothing to make the guns unique. Suros is probably THE most unique year 1 exotic by far and it's essentially just an rpm swap.

All true The issue in year 1 d2 pvp was the TTK was too slow, no random rolls, abilities were a little too slow on recharge, and movement was a little too slow. That's it really. Oh, not having infinite primary and running out of ammo was annoying too. Anything that wasn't a primary was a heavy = no special spam, and also only one person could grab the heavy, meaning it was a very valuable resource to fight for in pvp and also, there was not three or four people on the map at once with heavy ammo. Primary gun play focus. Abilities, ok maybe they were a little bit too slow in y1 but right now abilities and their recharge speeds are way to strong/fast. Abilities should be strong, but not something that be used every single engagement. Also, supers in y1 d2 didn't give the player DR so, they were strong but not busted. You had to be careful when you use it and how you use it. Right now, supers are just a win button. Movement speed, yes, it's way too fast in pvp, this is a large reason why spawns don't work right. The other part is a lot of the maps are designed for 4v4 not 6v6. Too many players on the map. The movement speed doesn't need to be super uber fast. Just my thoughts/opinions
