if you get hacked, people can gain permanent access to your account by adding a cross save platform
I recently had someone access my account i was unaware of. I changed my passwords and got him out, until i realized that he linked a playstation account to my bungie account. And now i have no way of getting him out of my account. Only he knows the login for the playstation account. So i cannot verify it to deactivate cross save. Is the bungie policy really just "oh well sorry can't help you"? Surely there is some way to prevent a scammer from getting permanent access to your destiny 2 account? Not only that buy he changed my bungie account name to "Tomorrow" and now I cant change that because I have "no more name changes remaining". So i have to play under the name this hacker picked... its so frustrating after putting so much time and money into this game.

Bungie's standpoint is that we're responsible for our account security, because we access the game through our platform accounts. If players don't use 2FA, or they re-use passwords on insecure sites, or click on suspicious links (in combination to not using 2FA), or, especally, willingly hand over their details for 'recovery' or boosting services it's the player's own action or inaction that let it happen. I am not making a comment in support of this, just explaining. Bungie in addition will not forcibly adjust anyone's cross-save setup, or make exceptions to the unlinking policy.
