The Video I linked above is actually aimed at Halo and its Unreal Engine development at the moment. But the points being made in that video can very much be applied to Destiny 2 as well.
The Portal feels disconnected from Destinys orbit map art style. It looks and feels like a foreign body in the games art style blood stream. Too minimalistic, too little like Destiny 1.
Edge of Fate, trying to be more like Destiny 1 (by the devs/community words), is not delivering that with the Portal. The Portal should also look like an Orbit map, with interactive drawings, circles, nodes, etc.
You (Bungie) could easily structure the Solo/Fireteam/Pinnacle/Crucible alongside Events and "Latest Expansion" and such in a way that they are like planet nodes on an Orbit map, but instead serving as a "suggested content" page.
Right now, the Portal feels like a boring singleplayer game menu that had no budget, not like a AAA game menu. It feels disconnected and out of vibe for the game. It doesn't contribute to the atmosphere and feels more designed by a corporate power point creator than a game art dev.
Just for reference, this is what Baldurs Gate 3 menu looks like. It does add to the atmosphere, the vibe, the immersion of the game.
Is it too much asked to go back to the Orbit design that makes Destiny unique?

Edited by ⒻⒶⒷⓄⓊⓇⒼⒺ: 8/12/2025 9:46:41 AMNot to be a party pooper but the portal menu is allot more clear. I went to search for a dungeon on the old world map and i found myself getting frustrated easily.... Also, when you want to add more stuff into the game, player navigation is extremely important. A few friends of mine are new to the game and they didnt know where to look for on the old world map... so i think (especially with a future perspective) that the menu is a good base for future content. It just needs a bit of a immersive touch. Right now im just scrolling down an old windows phone.... uhh... i mean a menu that works well, but needs some more visual pleasure 😏

Edited by J. Robert Oppenheimer: 8/11/2025 9:43:45 PMAnother thing I want to point out is how they changed the names of stats Got rid of "intellect, discipline and strength" for "super, grenade and melee" Its all lifeless and minimalist now

It's the most hideous way to execute a concept that could have been integrated into the old destination tab. But, they were so hell bent on soft sunsetting the solar system.
-
It's very corporate as well many places have workplace apps called "portals" used for work flow, operations and management/employee time keeping, productivity rates, scheduling, pay... ECT.. sounds familiar doesn't it... makes me wonder if it's not an actual game Dev that programmed it and but some fresh out of college intern with their lively hood shackled to a corporate overlord that doesn't know what a video game is...
-
The portal is taken straight from gacha game design (I know because I've played quite a few of them). It has all your activities in one menu, so you don't have to really interact with any other part of the game.
-
Bungie has addressed their over-correction in side-lining the director. They'll be rolling back the desaturation change in Sept and will likely add Kepler at some point following feedback and their goals for the tab moving forward
-
All the functions the portal served could've been served by a quick bar on the director screen. They already solved this problem in D1 yet feel that they need to "reinvent the wheel" by doing a sloppily thrown together menu that is just more bloat. They didn't forget to put eververse advertisements in there though, -blam!- disgusting.

WF had / has an excellent space / planet interface and quest progression maps. 👈 Be inspired! 🤩 But no more copying or stealing! 🤡🤥🤡 That is all. Ease Springs! 🫤

It's currently not working for me, I'm stuck on the background image, and nothing else 🤦♂️

Edited by ForeverLaxx: 8/11/2025 7:47:31 AM
Edge of Fate, trying to be more like Destiny 1 (by the devs words)
I can't recall seeing this said anywhere, but if true, we're in more trouble than previously thought if they think EoF is anything close to Destiny 1.
-
EoF reeks of minimal effort.
-
The portal feels like a half baked really good idea.
-
I HATE THE PORTAL. I deleted the rest of my rant - its been said and I'm just tired of EoF-BS. So very glad I did not waste a penny on this TRASH

Destiny 1 had an actual space map with planets since beta. The Portal map is nowhere near like destiny 1.

Edited by Mark, Scholar of Stars: 8/11/2025 8:28:16 AMBungie would do himself a favor if he would relaunch (reworked and optimized) the Portal. It's a tremendous opposite to the rest of the design of Destiny 2, especially the Director. They've exchanged round (Director) for angular (Portal). Which is authoritative for the game since "Edge of Fate," with all its restrictions now. But I doubt Bungie's aware of their new indirect language. No, that would be too much as an expectation. The Portal is nothing else like a speedrun app with in an advertisement section... still, outclassed by the optic and freedom of the Director. Even if the Portal should function as an upgrade, which it simply does not. Edit: For me, it looks intrusive and unfinished.
