Hi everyone,
Since the latest Destiny 2 update The Edge of Fate, I’ve been experiencing major performance issues that weren’t present before the patch. Specifically:
FPS Drops: Before the update, the game ran smoothly with stable FPS. Now I’m getting significant drops, especially in areas with a lot of effects or players. It feels noticeably more unstable.
High CPU Usage: I’m also seeing very high CPU usage, hovering around 90%, whereas before the update it was around 50%. This is abnormal for my system and seems to directly impact performance.
My system specs:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
OS: Windows 11 (fully updated)
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Made sure all drivers (GPU, chipset, etc.) are fully up to date
- Reinstalled the game
- Verified game files via Steam
Unfortunately, none of this has resolved the issue.
On top of that, I’m now experiencing a serious crash after around 5+ hours of playtime: the game completely freezes, with no error code. The screen locks up, the game stops responding, and I have to force close it via Task Manager, since even the whole PC becomes unresponsive for a while.
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?
Has Bungie acknowledged this issue or provided any workaround?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
SLeeVA

Same problem, and no disrespect to Bungie employees, but some of us are tired of being taken for a ride. This has been going on since the expansion was released, with no driver updates, no OS updates, right at the moment End of Fate opened. It reminds me of the New Light release, when it took between one and two months to fix it for Nvidia and over six months to fix it for AMD. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.

I experienced something very similar. I was doing Excision and when we unlocked the door to the final encounter my game started to drop heavy frames. At a certain point after the first phase everything froze, couldn't shoot anything, couldn't interact. Then the session crashed and returned everyone to orbit.

Yessir. Thanks for drawing more attention to this. Bad choppy frame rates, lowered graphics quality, frame time not looking right, It’s because of the new borderless window mode they made. it’s time to acknowledge this No amount of troubleshooting has given me any success however some have resolved the issue by playing in window mode , not the mode that says “fullscreen” Or Disabling fullscreen optimization in destiny game file settings

Game feels very inconsistent. Theres times when my gpu will stay pinned at 100% and ill get good frame rates. Then theres times when the fps is barely cracking 140fps and cpu and gpu usage is low. Im running on 5700x3d/9070xt/32gb dd4 3600

Hi there, Thanks for reaching out! If you haven't already, we recommend that you update your graphics card drivers directly from the manufacturer’s website. This will ensure you have the most up-to-date drivers and can help resolve these types of issues. If the issue persists, try rolling back to a previous set of drivers to see if this helps. Sometimes the latest drivers may lead to technical issues on specific hardware configurations.

we need to return the full screen or switch the game to direk 12
