What do you do?
I'm conflicted on this issue.
Do you ban all those players... make an example of them?
Maybe. Community Morale is at an all-time low. I'm apparently an apologist because I like the new expansion. I hate cheating... I don't use major exploits, I don't use out of band weapons, armor, abilities... ect. I don't use most minor exploits even, never exploited cores or shards.
Then why am I conflicted?
I love skill gap. Though I'm kinda' washed... I appreciate it, I lived it when I was younger. I'm happy this contest raid was tuned like it was.
If you're wondering what I'm talking about?
The API for contest was released and we have a lot of naive players. I'd say "stupid" but this isn't about bashing anyone. I hate cheating... still going to hold my tongue, lol. I guess for me...
70% at early estimates... it's probably more. Some people were probably smarter in their methods given what is possible.
Do you ban them all?
I don't know.
I do think prevention is better than punitive action for issues that could be mitigated or prevented first.
Bungie has accountability here. Someone needs to break rank, go over peoples' heads to talk directly to Sony about these security issues.
Sony needs to recognize and take notice. That laying off half the security team, half the networking team was going to have consequences.
That's why I'm conflicted.
100% in the creative devs corner... I want to make that clear.
But this was predictable... and could have been mitigated if not prevented.
No clearer evidence those decisions were wrong and that they have had a negative impact on the game... endgame, & the credibility of aspirational pursuits. This is an objectively bad situation from every angle.
@Bungie... for your consideration.

To not make examples of them is to condone it simple as that

Exploits are fine. Hacking is not.

Conflicted about banning cheaters is hilarious lmao. Kudos. I told you to get funnier and you're killin it!

I’d say these screwups are intentional but the story was decent.

Ban the players who actively cheated. Strip the players who benefitted of the rewards they earned and place a timed warning and a flag on their accounts. If they are legitimate, they won't try and benefit from a cheater again and the warning will lapse. If they deliberately sought the carry from a cheater, chances are they will again and let them suffer the consequences of their actions. The benefit of the doubt only goes so far, and I'm willing to give it for those who can't recognise subtle cheats. But not all these cheats were subtle, and at that point, if your response upon seeing such blatant cheats isn't to leave and report like any sane, legit person would, then I am sorry, that makes you just as bad and part of the problem. As for Bungie... They can ban these cheaters and lose hundreds, a thousand players. Or they could not, and potentially lose all but the most dedicated of players, because there will - and very much should - be an uproar if they don't do the right thing.
