My thoughts on the Edge of Fate

Since Edge of Fate has been out for just over a week, I feel like it’s a good time to share my thoughts. Campaign: 9/10 I really enjoyed the campaign. The story/narrative were great and I was intrigued the whole time. My only complaints about the campaign are 1) we had to keep using Matterspark every five seconds and 2) getting stuck trying to solve some of the puzzles. For example, during the final mission of the campaign I went in a circle twice because I couldn’t figure out what I was supposed to do or where I was supposed to go. It would’ve been nice if there was a system in place to give you a hint if you’re stuck on the same puzzle for over five minutes. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy a challenge or puzzles, but not everyone does. And considering the campaign is something that everyone has to do, they should have done something for players who don’t enjoy doing puzzles in a looter shooter game. The puzzles would have been better off being used first exploration on Kepler. Post Campaign: 4/10 Since there is no seasonal story to do weekly or a seasonal activity to do (like the Coil, Battlegrounds, Onslaught: Salvation, Court of Blades, etc.) you are forced to just constantly play the Solo Ops, Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, or Crucible playlists to slowly grind for power to access higher level content to get tier 5 loot. The customizable modifiers for activities add a unique challenge and experience, but can be annoying for solo players trying to lfg and not agreeing on the chosen modifiers. in Also the new Conquest mode that replaced Grandmaster Nightfalls is just stupid. The fireteam power boost from the highest level player in the fireteam is no longer active, so each player in the fireteam has to be at or above the required power level, and you can only use new gear from the current season in the activity. Armor 3.0: 5/10 The armor 3.0 system allows us to become even more powerful than ever before, but at the cost of having to earn new armor every six months just to have access to certain activities. Prior to the launch of Edge of Fate and armor 3.0, I had used the same couple of armor sets on my characters for well over three years because they worked with my builds and I only had to worry about swapping out an armor piece when I happened to get one that was better that what I currently had. Now we’re forced to grind the same activity (*cough* Encore *cough*) for tier 5 armor with stat bonuses that we like and that work with our builds every six months just to access certain activities, have increased chances at earning more powerful loot from activities, or because they introduce a new armor set bonus that is better than any of the ones currently available.

  • I feel like all there is to do now is grind… and nothing we get now is worth anything until we’ve grinded up more… Difficulty has also been totally destroyed as all the harder content just devolves into massive bullet sponges. Raid is fun (if a little too hard compared to other raids) but almost all my desire to grind it has been removed with how Bungie absolutely butchered the tier system — even to get tier 3 loot, you need to be an extremely experienced and competent Raider (good luck trying to lfg this). The story/lore was great and the new weapons are fun. But everything else feels half-baked and unoptimized. D2 needed to evolve but it also needed to ship in a semi-competent state…

  • For me it’s: Campaign: 4/10. Matterspark ruined it. Matterspark itself is good but the way it was used is poor. Portal: 9/10. I love match made master content. Armor 3.0= 6/10 not working properly but it’s def less game breaking I want to try mythic content but i sadly am one more mission away.
