Destiny has had its fair share of ups and downs. (Insert been here since beta meme) I have said the story and the seasons have had some really good, some meh and more than a few bads, but the one thing that I have always answered to my friends of "why do you still play that game?" has always been the same thing.
The gameplay, and by extension the gunplay, has been second to none. Even in times where everything else sucks, Destiny always had that something special in how you could just have fun slaying out with crisp shooting mechanics and fun abilities. Last season's Chaos Reach spam was some of the most fun I had in a while, and while I have been able to get close to that again with this season, the new difficulty options just suck the fun out of it all completely.
It is not fun mag dumping the same enemy for what seems like minutes. Chaos reach failing to kill an elite hydra let alone just tickling a boss is not fun.
BULLET SPONGES ARE NOT FUN.
For the first time in this games history I no longer feel like I have the one thing that made me come back if I was bored and just didnt know what game to play. I have guilded conquerors seal almost every season, gotten to rank 11, climbed the comp ladder (tho I'm mostly pve by far). I can do end game, I can complete mythic difficulty....I just...dont want to.
I am fine with difficult content, but red bars should die in a couple shots on every difficulty, there just should be more of them or something. I dont have the answers on how to fix it, I just know this bullet sponge nonsense is not it.

That’s how I feel. I took a break during Heresy and when this expansion dropped, I had so much fun with the insane Third Iteration. It felt like I was actually using an exotic, like it was in D1. Tried playing yesterday, still going through campaign. Now it feels neutered. Worse, it makes playing the game a slog, especially with the artificial difficulty of just making everything a bullet sponge. Coming back to playing this game has made me realize how much more other studios will actually put an effort into giving a damn about making your time more rewarding. Because at the end of the day, it’s games that are meant to be fun. If they continue to give you a ‘balanced’ (aka your exotics are collection fodder) experience, then what’s the point? They can keep soft sunsetting things, but what’s the point of coming back if the gameplay loop is this tiring?
