I completed the campaign on legend on all my characters, but didn't get the exotic armor piece on my warlock. I think it could possibly be because I was immediately launched in to normal on the intro mission, but I have no way of going back to do it. Rahool also has no novel decryption for it. There is no way of telling in game what I need in order to get the exotic, since I already did the campaign on one character.
