I have lost the motivation to play…

Congratulations Bungie. You did it. You have officially killed my desire to play after years and several (SEVERAL!) thousand hours of play. Been here since day 1 of D1 and what little fun I was having has been completely sucked out of this game. What a shame. The story was great. But the gameplay and increased difficulty garbage is the antithesis of fun. I’m not quitting (yet) but I think I’ll be playing FAR less than I used to until something is fixed or I lose interest altogether.

Bought the new season, and wish I could kick my past self in the back end (have to worry about inappropriate language), but Bungie doesn’t have to worry about putting out garbage. Thieves.

    • The Edge of Fate is what happens when the player base accepts mediocrity. This began long ago, which is why the overall experience has become watered down for those of us that expect that Bungie at-least attempts to exceed our expectations. Who at Bungie thought that The Edge of Fate would be successful? They should be fired. I barely even wanted to finish the first story mission. It was basically watch a trailer, run into the mission and then turn into an electric ball. If I wanted to play Metroid I could. I know that I’ll get some hate but sticks and stones right… Content like this is what the player base deserves. We, including myself, have accepted mediocrity over and over. Sure, some of the mediocrity has been more enjoyable than others, but the over all experience has little to be desired. Destiny used to be about adventure and space magic. D1 had a bit of a rough start at times, but it was the most fun that I’ve ever had with a video game. There were always people to play with. I met some great people back then. We would play for hours at a time. Out of a couple decent sized clans, I am the only one that continues to play through D2. Most left with the launch of D2. Bungie doesn’t have to try to reinvent the wheel with every expansion. They just need to show that they are trying to exceed expectations. Just try. They don’t have to though because we have accepted mediocrity each and every time and continued to throw money at the screen.

      • Same; You’ve locked meaningful progression (like T5 gear) behind artificial power barriers to keep us playing longer, stretching the grind for things we actually want—gear and weapons that can be used at higher tiers. The worst part? You made old content the most efficient way to get there. Your community has been clear: stop the time-gating. It’s killing the game. Now, you’ve released a DLC where the entire game is built around that same flawed system. Is it just for player retention? And even when we can finally reach for T5 gear and weapons, the content still drags us down with ridiculous modifiers like -20 or -30 power. It’s not okay. I canceled my $99 preorder to wait and see how the expansion turned out. I ended up buying the $40 version instead—and I’m glad I did. The best post I saw said this: This expansion is like going to Planet Fitness, but before you can enter, you’re forced to run 6 miles. Then, at the door, there’s a bouncer asking for a tip before you’re even allowed to lift weights. On a positive note: the narrative was strong, and I did enjoy the campaign. But if this same cycle continues next season, I’ll just watch Evan or Byf cover it—I’m not going to pay to be held hostage outside the gym.

        • Game is too difficult to understand. Wish they would go back to the destiny 1 level system. And stop making raids specifically for streamers. I miss the days of if I wanted high quality armor and guns all I had to do is the raid or play trials. And I wish strikes had replay value like in d1. Like the game is ruined because bungie listens to streamers who only play destiny 24/7.

        • Grinding isn’t necessarily the issue, it’s the activities required that are just bad. How the hell do you release a dlc and a couple hours later players have to grind activities they have done a billion times from the previous dlcs? Make it make sense

While I appreciate changes, I seriously doubt the way Bungie executed Armor 3.0 and the acquisition of it. I think it's too restricted and unrewarding with its expiration of six months. I bought the full package with "Year of Prophecy," knowing that I just will use half of it, like its stories or locations. The other half are the items and The Portal, which are just too unnecessarily complicated to maintain and operate. Edit: I also miss weapon crafting. That was something I really liked. It also was a perfect way to educate himself and become familiar with perks and synergy. They should have done the same with Armor.

        • Matterspark - annoying - and covered in depth in many posts, so much so Bungie is forced to change it. The new portal - content is totally restrictive and rewards are NOT rewarding. Even exotics are dropping at less than 60 base stat points, making them less appealing. Staring over at an I-Level of 10 is terrible. No way am i grinding that crap to what ever cap is 2 and 3 point of i-level at a time. It is not like playing a mission gets you gear 10 or 20 points of i-level at a time. TOO MUCH GRIND! Everything has to be customized, adding time and effort just to launch an activity, and quick play will not let you return to orbit at the report screen after you finish an activity, it just ports you t the next quick play. Too much focus on having to play the hardest content ALL the time. Streamers and elites wanted this; they got it and now Bungie has the lowest first day numbers EVER of a D2 expansion release day. Not looking good. They could put it on sale for half price right now and players would still not spend the money!

Mate of mine bought Edge of Fate for me as no one else we played with did. This expansion is just beyond bad. The campaign is way too long with you revisiting areas you have already been in for yet another mission that was basically the same as the last one. Matter Spark gets old really quick. The narrative was alright though. The last mission with Boss after health gated Boss just bored me. Power grind is ridiculous. I have got all three characters to 200 and I am already sick of playing things like the Dark Priestess to power grind. That's five year old content everyone has played to death. New stuff like Sunless Cell is removed so we can play Battlegrounds. Again. Put the strikes you removed in the game, all of them. I'll play that. Who thought that amount of grind was a good idea ?? .. this game feels like it was designed for streamers to make videos about. The Sieve activity on Keplar is yet another horde mode of overpowered ads shooting you all at once, that constantly respawn. And the shielded servitors are the most annoying thing of all. In the first encounter alone there were about a dozen of them that you have to use Matter Spark to get the shield down. Can't be bothered playing that for mediocre loot. Oh and the sound on PS5 is booked. It's not even been a week and both of us are bored with this so called expansion. It really feels like a step back.

What's worse you turned the expansion into the season itself so no seasonal activity nm the death of vendors RIP "Season of the Power Grind" 😑

I feel the same. It's not just one reason. It's been going on for years. Where do I even begin? XP throttle? Sunsetting? Annoying boss mechanics? Aggravating puzzles, and missions with timers? Nerfs? You name it! It just feels like they hate players having fun. Whenever you used to feel powerful, have good time, relax after a day's work and enjoy the game, they ruined it one way or another. Playing now feels frustrating, aggravating, and a chore. I have stopped playing end game content, playing with friends or a clan, and quit PVE altogether. It's just no fun.

For the first time ever since 2019, I had no desire to play any more and uninstalled the game. No crafting, an uninspired story with the Episodes, and the return of the Power grind have officially broken my Destiny spirit and caused me to look for other games. I’m currently playing Powerwash Simulator and it’s VERY sad that a game where all you do is clean virtual dirt for hours is WAY more fun than a game where you literally shoot aliens in the head. What a world I live in. 🤦🏾‍♂️

                  • Sadly, I feel the same way. This doesn't feel like Destiny to me anymore. I strongly feel like we were intentionally lied to, especially after the whole "missing patch notes" issue was finally addressed. Missing one or two changes is understandable. THIS.... this is unacceptable. The post by Dmg 04 reads like an apology from an abusive spouse. We never intended it, we know it's happened before, we need to improve, we would be out of our minds if we thought we could do this without you noticing, we're committed to honesty and never wish to deviate from that. They've done this exact same thing before and I have zero trust that it ends here. I can deal with and adjust to major changes. I don't appreciate feeling lied to and deceived with nothing more than an excuse of "This was one of (if not THE) longest patch notes submissions we've had, and while we hoped we had every bullet buttoned up, we fully acknowledge we missed on some big ones here"

I lost it by the time we got to Heresy because of the walking back of crafting. Now they expect me to be excited about a cycle of temporary power and gear, of grind just for the sake of it? WITH a a lame destination gimmick as a major selling point? We had it so good for four years. A near constant stream of something new for our classes practically every season, on demand weapon experimentation thanks to crafting every season. Build crafting was supplied and encouraged so well. THAT was the main reason to play. The actual combat. I didn’t need my loot or a level to be throttled to get me to play. Now that’s almost all erased for grind just for the sake of it. I hope the streamers and tryhards are enjoying the game as it crumbles around them.

                                • Yeah I think I’m done also. I didn’t buy the expansion but played the first mission and was like meh. I did some of the free to play stuff with the new armor and honestly I just don’t feel like bothering with leveling it up again. I don’t know why they changed up the armor so much. The weapons I have gotten aren’t that great and you can’t even see what rolls could be options in the D2 companion app. I think I’ll just catch up on movies and tv series in my spare time for a while.

                                    • Bungie can’t give you/us motivation to play, but they are definitely discriminating towards solo players, making it impossible for us solo gamers to get the benefit or basics of things like class item exotics bc I don’t have another destiny 2 friend. As well as I’m deaf and bungie discriminating against my disability because I’m deaf & need a support worker or friend to help me hear but that support worker doesn’t necessarily play the game nor enjoys it. So what am I to do! Nothing because bungie discriminates towards the disabled & is solo players. WHY DO YOU DISCRIMINATE BUNGIE! No wonder edge of fate failed to reach 100k player base, it’s because your killed your own game.
