We've known one of the Nine was responsible for masking the Red Legion from the Last City's sensors. The Dust lorebook says one of them did it to learn how to steal the Light because of Ghaul, and was punished for it. It's likely both are true: the Nine could have ensured the Red War happened so Orin would lose her Ghost and be set on the path to becoming the Emissary, but one of them could have wanted to see Ghaul steal the Light, and their influence led to the risk of Sol's destruction. Even if the Nine see all of time from above, up to even their deaths, they're going to want different things out of different scenarios.

Pretty smart move really. Kill her ghost only and turn her would draw loads of attention but a full blown attack on earth and the city to cover up your plan. No one outside of very few would suspect a thing.

First act of their new story and it’s riddled with retcons. 🤦 Tickle me shocked. Really makes me glad I didn’t bother with the dlc.

Yup. I’m starting to think everything has been retconned. Years ago we thought that The Nine had the power to take with the Haul. But those are “fake” Taken, originally. I’m starting to think that since The Nine have definitively been nailed down as fourth dimensional beings….the Taken might very well be a creation of “one” of The Nine. Jupiter seems to really hate us. Certain members also speak about how The Weapon will be broken. And for years they have talked about becoming “Unbound” so they can live in another universe away from dependency on Humanity. Yet we just got the instructions to bind them in the first place. I think The Nine are The Big Bad for the next 10 years…. Much like how The Darkness was until the moment we meet the Witness. It is a new “Saga” and you can’t call it that unless the characters introduced in the opening have a relation to the closing….
