So i am not a new player i have logged over 5,000 hours into the game over the past 5 years or so. However every once and a while I have friends who try to get into the game and honestly I find the game works against me trying to guide new players.
When I started I started with red war and that was a good story line to start on even though I never played destiny 1 previously. But I don't really recall if I was tossed around like a pin ball or not it's been a long while but this is I think my biggest concern let me explain...
So within the past month or two I have introduced two people, one who is returning and one who is completely new and both are complaining about the same thing. The new player experience is horrible... the game apon login tosses them into cutscenes to story they have no context about as they haven't caught up to that point or they get tossed into missions for example heresy first mission and the final shape intro mission... both my friends have prismatic before they even have all their light subclasses unlocked and even their darkness subclasses I don't blame them for being confused....
They were tossed in with 0 story context that the campaigns could have helped with abit. And they definitely don't have a recap of the seasons they missed out on....
Another issue they have is the pop ups telling them what to do. They stick on the screen and are annoying to get arid of. I understand you want them to look at things but I think we could take another approach that is less annoying and convoluted.
I will say there are good changes i have noticed the unlocking to the stasis subclass thank you bungie truely for that change. I know you guys try but im hoping that the new player experience gets better within the next couple of years of the new saga.
The time line stuff are.... ok but one issue i know I ran into was... why is there a time line mission for a dlc that is still in the game... and i mean the beyond light one... my friend didn't even start beyond light and was struggling to navigate and found himself in the recap mission.
If im being honest aswell... tossing players into a mission then after they finish they are met with a pay wall I get it you need to market the dlcs but it feels agressive when players are being randomly tossed in against their wills instead of them just choosing to do it...
To recap my points.
Please stop tossing new players into new content can we have a detection of a new gaurdian created and they get guided into the oldest stuff for story? Like not force them in just better guidance.
Please make the tutorial screens for example showing how to navigate subclasses better and less annoying to get arid of.
Please make the pay walls feel less agressive...
Thank you guys for all that you do and I hope you guys consider a brighter future for new lights.

I started playing a couple months ago due to having surgery and being on disability temporarily. The new player experience was -blam!-. I only made it through because I had so much time. I finally learned a good bit of the game, have been learning more intricacies often, and now it's all getting flipped upside-down. I'll be back to work soon, no more endless time. I think this is probably it for me... A solid two months with a game with 8 years of content (not really, sunsetting is messed up, taking content people paid for away), and I've had enough. I paid for the light and darkness bundle, how much of the content that I've only owned for two months is Bungie robbing from me? They should have to give partial refunds.
