Some Genuine Feedbacks

Hi Bungie, First of all, have a nice day. I don’t know if any Bungie employees will read this—honestly, I don’t think that will be the case. But still, I feel like I have to write this. I love your game, Bungie. I truly do. (As much as I hate it sometimes.) This post will only include feedback—I’m not into rage bait or pointless arguments. New & Old Player Problems To be honest, at this point, I’m not sure who your current target audience is—new players or veterans. Because, frankly, it feels like you’re missing the mark with both. For Old Players: There aren't enough reasons to stay. For example, Rite of the Nine is a very good event, but there's no real point in grinding for those weapons. Most of them are mid-tier (some are decent, but there are better options). And with the new weapon tier system coming soon, players are even more discouraged from grinding. I only did it for the title and then left—probably the same for many others. My entire clan is gone now—only I remain. I know I’ll stay, but it’s sad to be alone in a game like this. Walking the line of “not over-delivering” is dangerous. Even a small misstep can destroy the trust you’ve built over the past 10 years. I know it’s nearly impossible to satisfy every long-time player, but at the very least, pick a core segment within the veteran base and give them a reason to stay. Please answer this: Why should they stay? And why would they want to come back? For New Players: I’ve tried helping a lot of new players recently (since everyone else is leaving). To be blunt: your current DLC model sucks. It’s almost impossible to convince anyone new to play when they see that long list of paid content. Honestly, it’s only barely possible during a big sale. I won’t even go into dungeon keys or the “You need to buy A to do B” popups new players get within their first 30 minutes of gameplay. Please either: - Make older DLCs/dungeons free, - Or bundle them and keep them on sale forever, - Or just rename the current “Free to Play” version to “Free Demo” and put a proper price tag on the game. Everyone knows it’s “free to try,” but letting new players discover that after several hours can seriously upset them. The new player experience needs improvement. I know the Guardian Rank system is a step in the right direction, but to be honest—it’s not good. It’s nearly impossible for a new player to know what to do when they first enter the game. Add the constant paywalls they crash into, and they’ll likely just quit. Unless they’re lucky enough to find a clan or a mentor, they’ll bounce. So either: - Invest in community efforts to help guide new players, - Or create a better tutorial/intro experience. (Explorer Mode was actually a great example—you nailed that one.) Clans & Social Features Clans are barely supported. Please add more reasons to be in a clan—like shared goals, progress rewards, or better clan management tools. (Clan Dojo? No, I'm just dreaming.) Mentorship or “Sherpa” system: Reward experienced players who help newcomers (similar to guided games but more open and integrated). It would not only improve player retention but also empower community-driven learning. Right now, helping others is mostly done out of goodwill—with no recognition or reward. In the end, it comes down to the same core questions: Why should new players come? And why should they stay? Why should veterans stay? And why would they return? If you can answer that, I believe you’ll find the solution. (Maybe it’s trust? I don’t know—you’ve got people smarter than me.) Thank you for taking the time to read this. I really hope it reaches someone who cares.

  • You do a good job of highlighting pain points in a respectful productive way. I’ve think the core questions you pose are a good guideline. I think a “Free Demo” mindset would facilitate a lot of great changes. -Free “New Light” missions/introductions to abilities and worlds. -Free 5 matches of Gambit -Free 5 Strikes -Free Nightfall - 9 Free Crucible matches (3 control/IB; 3 Ranked, 3 ToO?) After that, a trailer montage “selling” them on continuing the journey with a discounted bundle for everything through BL. And a recommended starting sequence. Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit have suffered horribly from being F2P. There is little incentive to invest in them from a developer standpoint as you see no direct revenue generated in return.

Great write up. I’ve been a major Destiny fanboy since 2014. Pre-ordered everything. I’m not continuing with EoF after the recent announcements. The game is just not the same anymore and it’s not being made by the people that made it great before. The sunsetting they’re doing to my entire vault, no vault space in sight, and the price tag continuing to increase while the amounts and quality of content goes down. I remember when we use to get 2 raids and 2 dungeons per year. I remember when every expansion came with 10+ campaign missions & multiple strike and PvP maps. Now… I’m waiting till August to make my final decision. If reviews show EoF is a major comeback and it’s the best Destiny ever - I’ll eat crow and come back. But if it’s just going to be the same ol same ol - I think the end of the light n darkness saga is my stop.

      • Out of every system in the game, it amazes me how the clan system has been essentially untouched for 8 years. Even hawthorn has had no new voice lines since the red war.

        • Digital downloads have a lot to answer for. I remember standing in queues of hundreds of people at midnight, waiting to buy the latest CoD or GTA. You actually had a hard copy in your hand to take home and whack into your console, something visible for your money. If you didn't like it, you returned it for a refund or part ex against something else. All you do now is pay for PERMISSION to play the game, and it's impossible to get a refund if the game has actually launched, and you are disappointed or dislike it. There's nothing to part ex with either. The free to play options also are a huge magnet for the cheats too, who can continuously set up new accounts IF they get banned. ( And that is a big IF), without it costing them a penny. I've no no answers to the OPs questions, but I have opinions why veterans leave and new players don't hang around.

Every P2P dungeon from 2 expasions prior and earlier should have a F2P explorer mode with no exotic drop, catalyst quest, weapon drops, or triumphs/seals. Just armour for (atm) cosmetic reasons. So currently that would be SotW and earlier. When EoF drops, GotD and WR would join the ranks.
