Player told me to kill myself, that my parents should burn and that I should get cancer
I was playing with a guy that was rude in chat, calling me and another player -blam!-, so I said that should change his tone and he went on a hateful spree

While it’s not fun to receive messages like that, you give them power by reacting to it. That’s all they want; a reaction. So don’t give them one, and move on. Still hurts though… I feel for you.

Just ignore people my friend. That's what the mute and block buttons are for. Never answer back, that is one of the worst things you can do. Don't give morons the attention they crave. They want you to answer back. Don't!! A person who says hateful things like that is doing it for attention, don't give it to them. One of my favorite sayings is this, "Some people have something to say, most people just want to say something". And in this case your insulter is just some bozo who wants attention.

All these walnuts in the comments telling you to get over it can suck it. It’s a horrible thing to go through cyberbullying, and there’s COUNTLESS stories of people ending their lives because of it. I’m sorry this happened to you. That person probably has no friends, no one who loves them, and does nothing but play games and whine. Probably never touches grass, never sees the sun, never showers. Probably just a human bedsore at this point. So don’t worry about them. Hug your parents, and keep playing.

Yeah had that a couple of times I usually just say "Naughty Naughty you teasing me" which just seems to make them even angrier and by all accounts even more hilarious. -
Ya that guy probably just wants attention fishing for reactions... ignore, block or mute them immediately problem solved then report them after... then not your problem anymore
