Xenophage Catalyst

The gun needs help, very underperforming for an Exotic Heavy. Catalyst should be Field Prep for more reserves and faster reload which the gun needs, also Bait and Switch for more damage which the gun also needs.

  • Things Xenophage needs for a catalyst: -Bigger mag/more reserves. We already have catalysts that do both of these (Duality, Eriana's Vow, Leviathan's Breath and Tractor Cannon come to mind), either via a perk or adding to the weapons stats directly. - Either a faster reload, reconstruction or auto-loading holster. Things Xenophage needs in general: - Anti-Unstoppable instrinsically. This thing is a dang auto cannon disguised as a machine gun. Treat it as such. - Toxin? What toxin? Either let it deal poison or, as the name Pyrotoxin rounds suggests too, scorch damage. Or heck, both. - Give it an actual exotic trait. Most exotic weapons have an exotic intrinsic and an exotic trait. Every other weapon released in the Shadowkeep era does. The fact that Xenophage, a gun hidden behind a secret quest, multiple secret puzzles and dungeon shenanigans only for it to get just RANGE FINDER, is insulting. I can make a crafted legendary weapon feel more exotic than this!

    • For starters I would switch range finder out with reconstruction. Second I would make the catalyst a ramp up head seeker which would state "xenophage now does precision damage, landing 3 back to back body damage greatly increases precision damage and releases a large explosion that scorches nearby enemies. Strong against unstoppables".

    • The main perk of Xenophage is called Pyrotoxin Rounds. I understand the pyro part given it's a solar weapon. But pray tell, where's the toxin? Xenophage should apply poison to any targets that don't get one shot by it. Maybe even reclassify Xenophage as a Weapon of Sorrow so it can benefit from Necrotic Grip. Rangefinder should also be replaced with either Field Prep or Vorpal Rounds, and the catalyst should grant the perk that didn't make the cut for replacing Rangefinder. That way we get more ammo and more damage against bosses. Of course, I'm just a filthy casual, so what would I know about making weapons more fun to use?

      • Base weapon should be updated to intrinsic unstoppable. Catalyst update to apply scotch, and damage increases based on scotch stacks.

        • I think something unique would be cool. I feel too many exotics just get a perk that already exists in the game. This does increase the power. However, exotics should be exotic... Do something like the shell hits like normal and explodes, but it creates shrapnel that causes bleed? Reskin poison effects to be red even. Maybe add a hemorrhage effect if enough bleed is applied? I guess that's essentially scorch but would be way cooler and make an exotic feel unique. Also not that much more work if it's just a recolor of existing mechanics. Change the damage values as well.

        • Make it apply scorch 17 stacks, enough to trigger an ignition in 6 shots. Get a full fireteam with the gun and chain them back to back
