No trust left.

Bungie is hoping that the next year will keep what little players they have, get back players they’ve lost or gain new players. Marathon isn’t going to help them and with Sony poised to either dismantle Bungie into a one game studio with Destiny or totally dissolve the studio into a live action support system the community has had enough. The issue isn’t those who do their best to make the games but those at the top who are looking to get out with a fat bonus. Bungie used to be about making a great game experience. The merger with Activision and the release of Destiny was supposed to be a new start for the developer to move forward after selling off the rights to Halo to Microsoft and at first it was. Destiny started off slow but it gained a lot of traction in a relatively short amount of time. The players who stuck around after the first year spread the word and Bungie was off on its way to being the next giant. However that starry eyed optimism that was sold to the community of a a game that would continue to grow was short lived with bad decisions not just on Bungie’s part but by the partnership with Activision who wasn’t happy with the evolution of the game. Fast forward into Destiny 2 with a really bad nerf of the previous game with static weapons, a bad story and again poor management. Activision trusted those in charge at Bungie to make something that players wanted but instead they made it worse. Fans of the first game were not just disappointed but left the game and felt betrayed with the decisions made. Activision watched as the money invested didn’t get the returns they were promised and Bungie didn’t have answers or hid behind blame that was squarely pointed at the community and not themselves for their bad decisions. Go forward again and the announcement of the split of Bungie and Activision sent positive vibes throughout the community with not only new promises of a changed developer but one that would listen to the community. At first it happened but it didn’t take long until it got worse with non interaction from Bungie with the community. They stopped answering questions, stopped asking questions and when it got at its worst Bungie stopped all together and hid. Now today you have a developer who has corruption at its highest levels. They allow those in high positions to abuse power, hide and protect those who from consequences for -blam!- harassment or abuse while being hypocritical of other developers for the same thing. They’re greedy, narcissistic and flat out lie about the internal problems they claim to be against. They’re greedy only thing that the current board members and especially the CEO care about is getting their bonuses on the way out the door if and when Marathon gets released which doesn’t look great as a game. Sony has the final say so to stop this and they should as the feedback from the alpha wasn’t well received. The plagiarism of artwork, the 80’s hot pink and other neon colors along with the really bad non existent player direction just isn’t a good look. The bottom line is that Bungie went from an idealistic company who broke game barriers in combat games to a company who abuses their developers, allows misconduct while lying to their customers. They used to be great but greed as it usually does took center stage and those in power are looking for that big payout on their way out the door while smiling and lying to the community to save their own backsides so that Sony doesn’t pull back on their golden parachutes. Destiny is not only in trouble as a game who’s reaching to gain new players but it’s caused the remaining community of players to doubt the sincerity of Bungie. The trust is gone.

  • Yeah. Bungie went from my favorite studio to being the most toxic business I deal with. Bungie’s leadership made two catastrophic decisions that’ll probably lead to massive layoffs and possibly the studio ending. 1) Choosing Marathon over a D3 2 Choosing to not listen to the feedback from your developers and their customers.

Honestly, maybe the 4d chess good faith move would be for the community to drive Bungie to fail unless they cater to the community or get dissolved and absorbed in the way Sony sees fit so they adjust the IP and/or resources into something we can potentially still enjoy. I mean the vocal community has shown that their investigations into Bungie's shady dealings (weight gate, marathon & Destiny stolen art and narrative content, etc) and voicing that they don't like certain things seems to get even the big execs and business division to back off and cave in for awhile instead of abusing it's consumers/customers.

    • Bungie's efforts to crank up engagement are just oozing out of everything. I'm just seeing RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG. Edge of Faith isn’t going to save this game. It’s a never ending grind cycle, which is one of the reasons for the nerfs. I think that to some extent the whole difficulty discussion is just a pretence. They want people to get their new weapons so they tank the old ones. It’s frustrating in a looter shooter. You invest immense time and effort to get what is good and then they change the item so that it’s trash. How is anyone still motivated to grind? Anyway, don’t wait for Edge of Faith. It will be the exact same as always.

      • I have not pre-ordered Edge of Faith yet and nothing is changing my mind. The DLC comes out in a month and we know barely anything about it. And the stuff we do know is either not specific enough or very meh.

But you’ll buy whatever they sell and play it all the time. Trust isn’t something to be wasted on corporations. You either like the product or you don’t. The problem with some is they just can’t admit they like the game and that’s why they play it non stop. It’s a hobby not a life choice.

          • Now now.. Remember.. When a developer gets caught stealing and selling us content, they punish us.. This way, like in politics.. they have a conversation about something other than the crime.

            • Honestly i think the changes to weapons and armor are a kick I the face. Just like when we got kicked in the face going from D1 to D2 and had to restart. Doing it again and coming out with a new version of sunsetting but letting you sorta still use weapons is annoying. I am done and getting the DLC refunded.

"Within the company, there is a growing expectation that senior company leadership will leave in droves in the summer of 2026 when the final payouts from Sony's acquisition of the company take effect. With this in mind, there is a strong push to get Marathon out the door before then, and let whoever takes the reins after that (be it Sony or Bungie) worry about how it's sustained." That's from the article I linked below. Not with the image Bungie created over the years of themselves.

You have to understand that the executives came in to Destiny 1 and told Bungie developers to cut up content to sell as DLC. The original Bungie team said "Nope, we are not going to do that because we have a solid game with a solid story that can carry us for years.". Executives then fired those who opposed them and made them sign NDAs. Bungie does not have the same people who made the original awesome games anymore.

                • I personally don't play d2 anymore. Clan has pretty much fizzed out. Don't have the drive/energy to revamp it. Pretty much gonna move on at this point. I do not like the direction bungie is going.

                  • You mean the Bunge that couldn't show Marathons gameplay because of copyrights, meaning they took someone's artwork without their permission, and thought they would get away with it. Oh, get this, they did their normal copy and paste. Meaning they didn't even edit the name that was on the artwork 🤣🤣🤣🤦‍♂️

You're a solo player that doesn't touch end game content outside of trials. If you're gonna leave, leave. There's no need to show off your paragraph making skills.
