1, (Re)Grinding - Think a big reason why many players don't enjoy grinding anymore is because the game loop has been very stale & predictable for years on end from a macro perspective - if the game doesn't considerably update itself on a semi-regular basis, people get bored/tired of the same old same old and move onto the new freshness somewhere else...
2, Serving the Audience/Quality of Content/Management - Reality is, Destiny doesn't cater it's audience, it has previously tried to extract the most from the least possible resources, relying on gimmicks and cheap burn content on average - seasons/episodes are at a very poor quality and the team isn't agile enough to shift development at a fast enough pace due to poor management, institutional bloat and a of lack of overarching vision. I like Tyson Green and think their vision for the game is what's been needed for a long time, If this can be executed and at a pace that can retain/grow players remains to be seen.
3, PR & Trust - As much as I like Destiny 2 for some things, Bungie has destroyed a significant part of their own fanbase. Goodwill and trust is sorely lacking, to the point many want to see Bungie fail due to the volume of their mistakes & perceived arrogance - Bungie is not a likeable company, as much as some might think this doesn't matter, it often has a large impact on overall game sales and marketing.

I’ve been playing Destiny 2 for about a year now. I played D1 back in the day, so I’m not completely new — but getting decent gear as a solo player has been brutally difficult. The game does a terrible job onboarding new players. I’ve had to Google what to do at almost every step, and in 2025, the fact that most endgame content still lacks matchmaking is ridiculous. Worse, you’re forced to rely on LFG, where you often end up waiting for hours just to find someone kind enough to help. And even then, finding groups that include “teaching” tags is rare. As a New Light, most veteran players don’t want to run content with you — and honestly, I don’t blame them. The game is extremely gear-dependent, and if your loadout isn’t meta, your ability to contribute is basically nonexistent. That’s a brutal setup for anyone trying to break into the endgame on their own. Now after months of grinding and FINALLY getting solid gear, I’m now hearing that Edge of Fate will reset everything. If that’s true — and all our hard-earned gear becomes useless — I’m done. I won’t support this game anymore. At this point, it feels like Bungie cares more about maximizing monetization than respecting player time. The game costs over $300 just to unlock everything, and then you’re expected to grind for god rolls over months or years. That’s not content — that’s exploitation. Eververse is just as bad. After a whole year, I’ve barely gotten any decent cosmetics with Bright Dust. I’m stuck flying around with a busted ship while longtime players have all the best gear, glows, and armor sets. Destiny 2 has insane potential. But it’s being smothered by lazy design, recycled content, and a pricing model that feels like a mobile game. Bungie — please do better.

I just think that location locked power is lame
-
Financially, until these games pick up some serious steam. If December rolls around and destiny 2 is top selling game, alongside marathon at 2. I'd say it's a very successful year.

[Disclaimer I know I wrote a lot but this topic it's very heavy because you're talking about the change of Destiny 2 basically they're rebooting the entire game. Bungie could had sold edge of fate as D3 if they wanted to! ] Uncertain Future only time will tell. Yeah like I played a lot of games in the past I played outriders cyberpunk and I can tell you what Bungie is doing here I seen a lot of companies do it it's experimentation they're trying to change up their product to see how it plays out. Most likely Bungie finds Destiny very boring and they want to change it; they want to mix things up they want to increase the grind they want to add new systems/ tiers, so players have a reason to play more and so it's a new experience. As Datto and Fallout said who got Early Access that Bungie said to them in an interview that Bungie wants to see how edge of Fate plays out and they are willing to make changes if the majority of the community and streamers believe that certain things need to be tuned. Same streamer said that they are worried about the material economy that will players be able to get enough enhancement cores to level up their favorite gear to level 200 because once you get past 200 you have to acquire the new resource called unstable core and you can get it buy dismantling tier gear, but they are very confused if it's going to be a guaranteed dismantle or if you have to dismantle multiple gear to get one core. I attached a video back up what I am saying watch the full video because what he says towards the end he explains that Bungie has stated that they believe even players who grind non-stop will not be able to reach 450 Power by the end of the season. Basically the way they said this they made it seem like they wanted the grind to be harder and not easy. https://youtu.be/-lEBcOlNjsk?si=U9MzZg0jvuklHbW0 There was even people had Early Access who explain that when you're trying to go for an A score which is the highest score you can get where you do have the ability to get tier 5 rewards if you go below an A score you will get rewards lower than tier 5. Simply this means that you would possibly have to grind the same Mission over and over in order to make sure you get the highest score you can possibly get to get the best rewards that you're trying to acquire such as tier 5. Players don't understand this system is co op focused similar to co op focused story missions in the pale heart. Solo players can do it but if your team is dysfunctional you need to consider to leave the group and find a different group teamwork is key for tier rewards. Similar to outriders expedition must be fast but also effective work together. https://youtu.be/KWv3nSm_mEM?si=y3fsiChIlMYkimso 20:50 I know a lot of the streamers who had Early Access for edge of Fate they are very concerned with the puzzles for the campaign they explained that they're very complex for the average player. Ex in the first mission it took them like an hour or two for them just to figure out the main puzzle to proceed further into the mission they believe it needs to be tune down. https://youtu.be/-lEBcOlNjsk?si=U9MzZg0jvuklHbW0 3:50

I can tell you this if you play outriders you should know that basically the new system we are getting for edge of Fate it's the same system that you have armor sets that you have stats sets. ex building crafting you gotta focused on getting identical stat bonuses. if you like that Edge of Fate is for you if you don't you will hate edge of Fate. Clearly the grind is not the factor the issue is will you enjoy tiers and if you can handle it.
-
I know I can handle it because I platinum outriders I enjoy games like this where you have to have different tiers and you have to grind for certain armor sets or certain gear stats to have the best optimized build; these games are really fun because you have more build diversity you're able to become more stronger over time. However let's just hope when edge of Fate drops that Bungie is not going to Nerf tier weapons like crazy for the sake of PVP which we know could logically happen. Honestly if this happens then yeah these changes are going to be a disaster. Bungie has to decide what's more maintain balance for pvp that no one care about or making destiny pve the best it can be so they can keep players active. Face it destiny would be better off without PVP; pvp just brings in more toxic players who zero social skills and more cheaters.
-
Bungie's biggest problem is that they never try to get their priorities straight they want to juggle everything all together but they don't understand you have to decide what is more important. They need to what is best for the community not for a few streamers or do things to make a few active pvp players satisfied. bungie always wants praise from the wrong people who doesn't care about bungie nor the community/game. i seen players like this all over other games they sadist and sociopaths. These kind of players are the ones responsible for the failure of the community for active games like outriders and Anthem there was plans for Anthem 2.0 for PlayStation 5 which never happened because everybody left the game because of these kind of sadist players who only want the game to benefit them and they want to basically give the middle finger to the 80% of the other players. Most importantly if you look at the videos for Anthem 2.0 it is identical to the weapon tierrs for edge of fate. Except it was a revamp of the gear score in anthem.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 6/12/2025 2:35:48 PMThese changes that are coming…I think making this game a lot like other similar games instead of continuing to separate itself from them is a major mistake that is going to backfire. This doesn’t feel like a Bungie move. This feels like a corporate move.
-
Don’t give something as valuable as trust, to corporations. Save it for people who have earned it. Honestly you’re posting general things that apply to most game developers. With that said there isn’t many 11 year old franchises still turning a profit.
-
Yeah, I’m holding on my purchase until a few weeks out for some reviews. This looks like it’s going to be bad.

Bungie failed already. They had several waves of layoffs. The creative team was shifted directly to Sony to work on their IP's, and they lost their autonomy also to them. They are being sued right now for copyright infringement and can't even defend themselves because the subject of matter is in their content vault. And this isn't the only case. Pride comes before fall. Today, looking back, I think Bungie was often unfair and had no foresightedness. I'm not one being glad about the downfall of this company, and I'm sorry for Destiny 2 and those developers who put their hearts into it. But it's obvious that a few had their own agenda.
-
My biggest gripe is the constant targeted nerfs that kill builds. This has just ruined build crafting for me because why bother making a build knowing it’s just gonna get nuked. The prismatic fragment controversy is a prime example. Plus Lately it’s just been more nerfs than buffs in patch notes. Power fantasy is fun it’s what drew myself and many others to the game. Bungie keeps trying to remove that and it just ruins the most important aspect of gaming called FUN.

Edited by Ulzana: 6/11/2025 8:47:30 PMYes, I'm excited... for Bungies future. Sony will absorb them and either rebrand or purge their name completely. Bungie brought this on themselves after 10 years of regularly exploiting & abusing their customers. I'm not excited for Destiny's future unless and until Sony announces a Destiny 3 from a competent trustworthy developer.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 6/14/2025 12:32:16 AMBasically everything about the direction the game was going in or appeared to be going in has already started going away or will be going away come EoF. It feels like all the things that made this the one live service game that I actually felt was worth playing is going away and it’s becoming just like all those other ones I have absolutely no interest in playing. Build crafting and experimentation was the reason to play, now it seems to be shifting to a cycle of “make number of up” which is just….boring. I don’t like seasonal reset style systems and now we’re going to see that for both power and gear. A cycle of “number go up” just for the sake of it is artificial and not compelling. I truly think crafting should have been balanced and expanded upon in meaningful ways that make it more rewarding instead of it being burned to the ground. The return to no meaningful bad luck protection or targeting agency for seasonal weapons that came with Revenant killed what I felt like was a mostly balanced loop of earning seasonal craftables to experiment with on demand while I chased non craftables. Losing that instilled a level of apathy in me that had me not finishing content that I paid for, for the first time ever. Now we’ll see that extended to armor as well come EoF. I don’t care about temporary destination gimmick abilities and would rather have seen that time and resources spent on permanent things for subs to continue to add to build crafting. Everything that is happening or will be happening(aside from armor drops being made interesting again) feels like a downgrade. The weapon side of build crafting accessibility has taken a major hit by walking back crafting, and that doesn’t appear to changing. We’re getting temporary destination abilities instead of new things for our classes. Gear is getting a reset cycle. Level is tied to gear tiers. A number go up cycle as “content.” It all feels uninspired, artificial, and not compelling at all.

Yeah, we've been hearing it since 2014.
-
intransigent Refusing to moderate a position, especially an extreme position; uncompromising. Refusing compromise; uncompromising; inflexible; irreconcilable. I've never seen a company whose leadership is so dead set against ignoring plainly popular and vocal feedback...not until bungie.

I'm super excited, but not for the reasons you might think. 😲🍿🔥🚢

1) Grinding in Destiny serves no purpose - that's the problem in a nutshell. In MMOs, you grind for gear in order to try something new, some particular focus for your class and subclass, and once you've done that, you can either keep that build or try something new to serve a different role. And that gear won't stop being relevant, but at worst it might become a slightly weaker version of the best in slot gear. Destiny has no roles, and no gear that really focusses on a class or subclass (beyond some very specific exotic gear which usually ends up being so incredibly niche, it will barely survive the meta for one season. No point in grinding for something if it becomes irrelevant the moment you obtain it. 2) Bungie still don't know how seasonal content should work. You should have a reason to log in at least once a week (or a reason to cram for the last four weeks of the cycle). Not completing the whole thing in week one and then having to wait three months. Not providing a week's worth of new content and then trying to make it stretch a month until the next act. Small additions on a regular cadence; it may not blow your socks off, but it will keep you coming back. 3) I don't understand why this has come as such a late revelation for most players; I stopped trusting Bungie the minute Destiny 2 was announced, because that went against the entire mission statement for the original game. Since then, they've 'sunsetted' content I've paid for, cheated me out of dungeon keys and season passes and failed to deliver on their promises time, after time, after time. For me, it's not that they've lost trust as much as they've put the minimum effort in to gain it in the first place.
-
When the new systems launch we will find out really fast I'm sure
-
I wouldn't say they're setup to fail, but they're definitely making very poor decisions with what they have access to.
-
I never praise a company but the fact that Bungie told people who had Early Access that they're willing to make some changes down the road if edge of Fate needs more development that they're willing to do that just like what they did for Destiny 2 2017 release remember they had to change almost the entire game because it was too casual. However after shadowkeep with seasons introduction was terrible boring and dull rewards were so genetic. The way heresy is that is how every season should had been harder grind for new rewards with a strong story. Some people don't like the doctrine dungeon but to be honest it's a good dungeon the rewards are worth it, but when you have a good team and not a bunch of players who act like they got their head stuck up in their -blam!- and they don't know how to work together as a group like they never played a sport in their life. These kind of players will fail in edge of fate.
-
knowing bungies track record over the past couple years. l would highly advise playing free version for at least a few weeks or so. and follow trusted reviews . bottom line ,there changing a lot of things so a lot could go wrong including not liking the game anymore.
