The REAL Issue With Prismatic

Is prismatic the most powerful “subclass”? Yes, it allows us to neutralize the weaknesses of the regular subclasses by using the strengths of other subclasses. Are the aspects losing a fragment slot the most played? Yes, this one is pretty obvious. Do they need a nerf? Probably for some of them. Is there an underlying issue besides those aspects just being “overpowered”? Yes, and it really isn’t that difficult to see. Starting with Warlocks: 1.) This is probably the closest to being the most balanced class when it comes to aspects. 2.) Hellion and Bleak Watcher aren’t overly powerful, provide build variation, and there isn’t really any other aspect from their base subclasses that would provide any benefit to prismatic. 3.) Lightning Surge is in a similar boat where it isn’t over powered by itself, but it can be ramped up pretty easily. I also can’t see switching it out for Ionic Sentry or Arc Soul significantly shifting the power level, and Electrostatic Mind has pretty much been made into Facet of Awakening. 4.) Weaver’s Call is definitely the underdog here, as is the case with pretty much all other strand aspects used in prismatic. It is hurt by not having the other strand aspects and fragments to buff up the threadlings produced and all the other strand aspects run into a similar issue where they are just too niche. 5.) Feed the Void is the sole aspect that provides a build with healing prior to fragments and armor mods. Everyone knew this was going to be a staple with it benefiting grenades for the class known for grenade based builds. There was a reason this aspect launched with only 2 fragment slots. 6.) Overall there really isn’t anything to do to Warlocks besides adding additional options when it comes to supers and grenades to open up builds with unusable exotics. Next up, Hunters: 1.) The true middle of the road when it comes to prismatic. 2.) Similarly to the Warlock’s solar and stasis aspects, Gunpowder Gamble and Winter’s Shroud both benefit builds, aren’t overly powerful powered, and have no solid replacements that really benefit prismatic. 3.) Threaded Specter is that classic strand aspect that just doesn’t really provide much benefit alone. The decoy doesn’t take aggro very well and dies easily. Whirling Maelstrom could be an easy swap for build variation. Ensnaring Slam (or Shatterdive, or both) could also be swapped in as build alternatives to Ascension. 4.) Ascension is the “best of the rest” aspect for Hunters. Tempest Strike could unlock new builds similar to Lightning Surge and Consecration. Also, Lethal Current also has potential allowing Withering Blades and other throwable melees to jolt targets. 5.) Stylish Executioner, the survivability aspect. The obvious replacements would be Trapper’s Ambush or Vanishing Step to nerf the uptime of invisibility but not removing it all together (both would see the fragment slots be raised to 3). On The Prowl is essentially a non starter since it requires a way to go invisible which would restrict builds to include Assassin’s Cowl. 6.) Overall I see 2 viable options. The first is to swap in Whirling Maelstrom and/or Lethal Current to add better rounded damage options. The second is to swap in Shatterdive and Ensnaring Slam and watch builds go all in on dodge alternatives. Additionally add in more supers, grenades, and melees to open up builds/exotics. Finally Titans: 1.) Destiny’s problem child. Always seems to have a game breaking build while all other builds will get you kicked from the fireteam. 2.) Unbreakable, the most unuseful prismatic aspect, least used void aspect, and probably the worst aspect in the entire game. Breaks very fast (kinda ironic), deals very little damage upon exploding, and consumes a grenade charge without guaranteeing a HoIL trigger (just throw your grenade). Controlled Demolition is an easy add as a damage alternative and Bastion is an easy add as a defensive alternative. 3.) Diamond Lance isn’t bad by any means, just change the wording to allow any weapon kills to make a lance and it becomes very usable. Stasis weapons are generally the weakest damage type and Titans usually struggle to cycle abilities so that limitation just hurts this aspect. 4.) Drengr’s Lash is again that classic prismatic strand aspect that struggles outside of base strand. Suspend doesn’t last long enough and can’t be buffed by the pure strand fragments. Most people’s go to replacement would be Banner of War but that might just end up breaking Titans in a whole new way, but Into the Fray could be a viable option to cycle melees faster. 5.) Consecration really went from zero to hero. Base solar builds it went pretty much unused because Sol Invictus and Roaring Flames synergized so well. Sol Invictus would probably have the same game breaking effect as Banner of War, but Roaring Flames could be an interesting alternative. 6.) Knockout at the time was the only option for the arc aspect. Touch of Thunder would need massive changes and Juggernaut gives Unbreakable a run for its money as worst aspect in the game. Now that Storm’s Keep exists, it would be interesting if the goal is to shift Titans to only hiding behind barricades. 7.) The first option would be to switch in some combination of Sol Invictus, Banner of War and Controlled Demolition. This is every Titans dream but it would either make an unkillable build (Sol Invictus/Banner of War), an everything just explodes and dies build (Sol Invictus/Controlled Demolition), or a combination of both (Controlled Demolition/Banner of War), all of which would break the game but at least there wouldn’t be any more Consecration/Knockout builds right? 8.) The simplest option would be to add in Throwing Hammer. That all but guarantees a shift to Diamond Lance/Knockout which probably increases ad clear but reduces large target damage. Plus Titans can finally become Thor. 9.) The most realistic option is the full swap out, adding in Bastion, Into the Fray, Roaring Flames, and Storm’s Keep. This provides two solid builds, the barricade build and the melee/ability spam build spreading out aspect pick rates more evenly between 4 and probably all 5 aspects. As always I still want to see more supers, grenades, and melees added in as well. Most probably won’t read all, if any of this, but in reality the lack of build variety is due in large part to the melees, grenades, and even supers greatly restricting what exotics we can use. Titans obviously are the biggest outlier because their alternatives are most likely too strong or didn’t exist when prismatic was created.

On warlocks iceflare bolts would have been much more interesting than bleak watcher. We have 3 minion based aspects on prismatic. That's a bit much. Warlock also needs to have thread of evolution applied to prismatic while needlestorm is equipped. And needlestorm needs to get the full buff from star eaters as well as get a general rework to allow us to specifically target bosses with the super if we want to. I personally think Nova Warp/Chaos reach would have been better supers than nova bomb and stormtrance. Nova bomb and needlestorm are far too similar in my opinion, but chaos reach is different enough and star eaters would be much better than geomags for making it a damage super, Nova Warp is also a much better roaming super than stormtrance and would feel better.

Looking to adopt a cosmic cat from Xur! - old

I would love to see writhing maelstrom on hunter, and paired with the new EoF exotic would be very fun.
