Seriously, I don’t know where to start.
The quest is so overly complicated that there is NO WAY that ANYONE could do this without watching several YouTube videos. It is insane. The amount of time you would have to play to even have the CHANCE to come across all this stuff naturally is crazy. It is long, annoying, complicated, RNG-based and just so poorly designed.
And oh my god, the design of this quest is so garbage that I literally could punch the person who set this up in the face. Not only do you have to run through the Nether like a thousand times to get all of this done, no, you also have to do it alone pretty much because the chance that you’ll lfg someone who HAPPENS TO BE on the same step as you on this infinite quest line is slim at best. Normal lfg will ruin it. So yeah, alone. In a place with overpowered enemies - “explorer difficulty” is a JOKE, seriously get effed if you think that’s a good setting - without healing and with tasks that pretty much give you ONE shot at something and then you’re done.
And if you’re doing some of the secrets, there is no tracking. The game tells you nothing about your progress.
I just FINALLY got to the place where you have to wake up this yellow-bar thrall and lure him to the worms. I played this solo forever to get there. Then I get there, he’s already up and walking and I’m surrounded by op enemies that I somehow have to kill without killing the stupid thrall. Long story short, I died. No idea. Probably have to find it again.
And honestly, just shove it … this game is such a HUGE EFF YOU to ANYONE who tries to play it. The game tells you nothing while confronting you with the most convoluted and complex quest lines I have ever seen. Nothing works. Things don’t spawn bla, you can read threads and threads on end about how parts of the quest or quests don’t work and people have to run things over and over again to get it done somehow.
Is this sheer incompetence or is this by design so that people spend more time playing?
It is honestly so bad. I’ve played hours and hours and still don’t have all the catalysts. It’s a joke. This game is a joke. The people that make it are the most incompetent people in the business. And they continue to saw off the branch they’re sitting on.
Have fun crashing down with this game.
What a complete joke.

Yes frustrating. Hidden Gliff in the Founts after the Gliff puzzle that opens a secret door. Random on top of random and extremely hart to see. Then a vision wipe mechanic if door is opened and blight is not found in one minute. That Target Lock catalyst may remain incomplete. Other than that the worms and other secrets are easy to find albeit random in nature. Meaning dozens of exploration sessions on the hive ship to complete. Rather run exotic quests a few times instead.

Well, looks like I’m not getting the catalyst any time soon. -
Yeah ..it was the worst experience ever. I couldnt get the target lock catalyst no matter what i was doing. Apparently i was missing a secret or 2 from the nether. And there is no way im runing countless nether runs and do every secrets possible until i find the right ones im missing. So i ended up cheesing the chest. And even after that i had to find out what worms i was missing... And after 30min all 10 worm spots were empty so i was losing my mind...just to see on reddit that i had to be on path of ambitio. to see the worms...and its not writtent anywhere on the quest...

You can get the gun without doing all that crap. And can get only 2 good catalyst from someone who done the BS opening portal for u
-
Looked at this quest…. Was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for me
-
Yeah I gave up trying to figure it out. I don't use it anyways, I think the gun is trash anyways.
-
Lmao it’s easily the worst exotic quest in Destiny’s history.
-
Hate to burst your bubble, but that thrall in the Hall of Souls, is nothing compared to the rng -blam!- later in the quest. The rng to goto The Founts with the rng maze secret (there are 2 spots in the maze the blight can appear) and the rng access to Hull Breach with rng spawning the interactable Toland that spawns a Taken Centurion. Worst quest ever. This is what the community gets for hating on the seasonal caty coming from the seasonal exotic mission on expert.
-
Yup not finishing that bs, devs at bungie stay clueless
-
I mean we can avoid the crashing out in the post. But yes, the barrow dyed quest is impressive levels of “please stay on the hamster wheel” quality. Having activities that are just basically impossible without a guide has always been one of my largest gripes with the game. Not cause I can’t do them, just cause they end up being painful and unfun.

I simply haven’t bothered even starting it…
-
Quit. You've been building up to it for so long, why haven't you made the move yet?

OP: Never say nether! 😁 Seriously, though, you’re not wrong! It’s what I call the ‘Neomuna Overtuna’ effect…where the artificial difficulty level is overtuned to the point of being ridiculous. It started with Lightfail… A certain element seek and enjoy that level of gameplay…though I daresay the greater majority do not. I know I don’t. 🧐 I completed the B-D SMG missions. It wasn’t fun. However, I quite enjoyed pootling around the Nether (on Explore mode only)…finding stuff…revisiting old haunts from way back…that was the fun bit for me. Eventually, things became very doable…though that exotic smg quest was a pain, for sure. Just like the utter confusion for the Pale Heart / Khostov exotic quest, and other overlapping quests, which only made it worse. And then there was the exotic class item duality mission kerfuffle…🤖🤔 Suggestion: find your preferred video tutorials, eg, 360GhostTV 👈 …and take it nice and easy, step by step. Stick with Explore mode in the Nether…and get familiar with all the hidden stuff, and more. Just take your time…it’s very doable! And then, you’ll get why I said ‘never say Nether’ 👻 FWIW: the court of blades is one mode that I steered clear of…to me, it was too much nonsense. ❌❌❌ Same for Tonics…❌❌❌ There’s a lot of stuff in the game now that appears to be focused upon the few. And, looking ahead - Marathon / EoF…it seems that the many - aren’t buying it. 🤮😤 This old tortoise is strongly considering one’s options regarding EoF…🙄 Pete 🤡 and his ‘no over delivery’ sidekick 🤥, and their (no doubt) hand-picked acolytes within BHQ just keep on getting it so wrong with the game’s direction. 🤑☠️🤑 Whoever they’re listening to, it sure ain’t the majority of Destiny gamers! 👈🤫👈 No matter. Winter’s coming…again. ❄️🥶❄️ That is all. Carry On. 🖖

The catalyst quest was a turning point for me. I lost all desire to play when I was done with it. I log in for a little pvp when I'm bored, but I'm totally burned out after all that nether garbage.

Edited by SCTTSMALL: 6/8/2025 1:14:57 AMThe points you make are valid. However, I think this is the best catalyst quest thus far since it did not require me to run the exotic mission a million different times.

I managed it without looking it up. But yes it’s the worst quest in the game.
