The comparisons are so wildly contrasting.
One’s time gated to all hell, sucking the fun out of it - the other was very well paced.
One has desire-able loot for the following year, that’ll even get a sweet buff update once the next year starts - the other has gear that’s being made obsolete on day 1 of the next release.
One had tons of aspirational cosmetic and fun rewards on top of high end drops from the encounters original loot pool - the other a single item.
One seems to be a momentary forgettable experience - the other prepped you for the following expansion and left a memorable impression.
The concept for a Dungeon equivalent to Pantheon was an awesome idea, but it needs a lot more time in the oven to compete.

Edited by ben: 6/12/2025 8:04:57 AMI know its free content but i think the expectation was set by into the light and this severely underdelivered I expected more dungeons but the biggest disappointment for me was how bad the loot is, and its not even future proofed to work with the new system like the brave weapons were. Brave weapons are still some of the best to this day. ROTN weapons are bad to begin with and will be garbage in EOF since they are basically like tier 3 guns with no 15% bonus. I will say the one thing going for it is that it actually is a lot of fun to just play in my opinion. Very very rarely do we get experiences as challenging as ultimatum mode and as someone who plays the game for the challenging stuff I think the difficulty is really well balanced and fun; its hard enough to test even the toughest players and guarantee some wipes especially when going for gold, but reasonable enough that it can be mastered and rolled through by a competent and practiced team. There is no artificial difficulty, not even the mods, its totally reasonable and quite fun. It made three dungeons that I did not love into super engaging experiences that gave me a newfound appreciation for them. With how strong our builds our these days and a lot of things getting ready to be phased out, its fun to have an activity where we can test our peak strength. So despite how bad the loot is I have had fun genuinely just playing for the sake of playing which is rare. But I am in the extreme minority of players that jumps on the challenging content and enjoys mastering it... people who play the looter shooter for the loot get nothing.

Edited by Kenny: 6/9/2025 4:50:59 PMBungle could just copy the Into The Light template. 3 new Onslaught maps + Dungeon version of Pantheon (not whole dungeons) with added explorer mode for new players. That would be perfect.

1 ReplyYeah, I can generally agree with this. The timing of RotN is crazy... do bungie even want us to play the game?? E.g. why bother doing anything this week, when it's loot week next week? Why bother doing anything at all until it's all available and lootapolooza is going on? Why farm any of this stuff if they're only going to be end game picks for about 5 more weeks (void shotty with 1.2.P and TB might be the exception). I do think RotN is set up for how the portal will work though.

rite of the nine should've been boss fights only instead of doing the whole dungeon with silly modifiers and annoying mechanical changes

Good activity for into the light. Bad activity for into the dark (‘cos Sony’s going to turn all the lights off). -
Because pantheon was a selection of boss fights. Not the whole raids. And it was released every week with another encounter and harder difficulty and modifiers. And new mechanics (double rhulk !) Making it a fun boss rush. Rite of the nine is just...do the whole dungeon in contest mode, includîg the tedious boring parts. As an example ghost of the deep without the 1st encounter and the dumb under water areas would have been liked. Just simmunah an echtar would have been enough. They could have added more dungeon fights into the mix.... Pit of heresy final boss, shattered throne vorgoth or final boss etc... All of it with contest/ updated mechanics. It should have been the EXACT same thing as pantheon, but with dungeon encounters... But nah...their plan was just 3 dungeons with 3 frikin weeks between each. Fun fun fun.

1 ReplyThe worst part about it for me is that the time gating is even worse. At least with Pantheon the next version of the activity was added on top of the previous rather than fully replacing it. With Rite of the Nine you don’t have that luxury. I couldn’t play during the couple weeks with Ghosts of the Deep until literally the last minute, so I have to wait for it to come back to try and finish up the triumphs and quests for that one.

RotN is pretty bad. Lame dungeons, lame weapons and whatever this storytelling (these useless videos we get without voice) should be. It's not even Into the Light from wish... it's an ugly abomination

2 Repliesyes and no, on the fun part pantheon was better, but no real rewards outside the emblems, rotn on other hands is little less fun but with far better rewards for the loot, kinda sad they did not make all guns worth

Patheon was over delivery. You think bungie would do that twice in a row? If you really think bungie was going to do another Into the Light quality event, I'm sorry but you are the biggest bozo ever. It's common sense to me that they wouldn't.

Pantheon was an activity in the into the light event was it Not?
