Edge of Fate: Will all armor and weapons basically be seasonal?

Ok. I've got a different thread going trying to figure out if my current vault is going to be trash. From that and other threads I think I've got this figured out. Bungie is changing Destiny to a model where all armor and all weapons are basically seasonal. When EoF releases, you can choose to run old loot and not gain DR or damage bonuses, or you can get new loot and gain DR and damage bonuses. The when Renegades releases, all the stuff you just acquired may still be tier 5, but you'll lose the DR and damage bonuses. So you need to re-grind to replace all of that T5 stuff you just spent 6 months earning. If that's going to be the game model, why don't they just come out and say it? This model probably doesn't impact the hardcore players and streamers much. But what about the other 90% of the community? My gut says why play a looter-shooter where your loot is temporary?

    • Yeah, I’ve been on board for all the other changes but I REALLY don’t like the Seasonal DR and damage bonuses. This is just an extra, completely unnecessary level of FOMO. I’m not cancelling my pre-order but if that stays in its current iteration, I likely won’t preorder again.

        • This is the change that concerns me most. In the last 5 years, I’ve put almost 2700 hrs into this game. I love it. But this soft-sunsetting of gear sounds awful. I will absolutely walk away from the game forever if this change is implemented. I’m already contemplating getting a refund for the EoF pre-order.

          • The grinding doesn't concern me the main issue is how much of these stats will affect pvp with the damage boost because pvp is already broken and too chaotic and it's been getting worse over the years and this is just more fuel to it. *If we are honestly doing a sunsetting reset like this then Pvp needs to have its own exclusive armor that doesn't affect it anyway from PvE buffs Pvp armor should only boost *Shield *Grenade (on the fence about this) lol *Melee *Class *Weapons(reload & handling) only *Wearing PvE armor in Pvp you take increased damage from weapons and abilities but less with Pvp armor This may calm the craziness going on and super up time on abilities and actually have a balance between both.

            • If I bother to continue playing, I've already decided that I'm only grinding the armor I need for my builds and I will refuse to replace them seasonally. I'll just eat the DR loss. If a seasonal weapon is worth getting, then I'll get it, but otherwise I'm also choosing to lose out on the Damage boost. I refuse to engage with such a predatory system that disrespects player investment so heavily.

            • I'm beginning to look at it like a cheap D3. The "soft sun-setting" really makes me wonder why I should be chasing anything right now. Eventually it will all be useless. I'm still looking forward to the next expansion, but with some trepidation. Let's hope it's a good DLC, and not a jarring gear change and grind.

              • I’ve come to the complete opposite conclusion. If you’re not a hardcore player, why waste your time for unnecessary bonuses that go away every season? You can still easily complete everything in the game without that extra 15% damage or DR and I can tell because all of you have terrible builds with no surges and little sources of DR and can still complete most things in this game😭

https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/264782436/0/0/1 I’ve had the same thought. I posted the link to give you a laugh as one of the rabid Bungie glazers goes off on a mega rant. 😝. I found it entertaining anyway. More so than the game at the moment. Here’s my direct quote from that post.
Those of us who are capable of pattern recognition in Bungie’s deliverance of content for D2 over the years, see the writing on the wall. This game is FUBAR’d under Bungie’s control, as is Bungie itself. They’ve doubled down on the eternal hamster wheel grind and slowly but surely making our old gear irrelevant. I predict they will do exactly the same thing to all the “new” gear from EoF when Renegades drops. All the new gear in Renegades will get the “new” Renegades artifact buff and everything you’ve grinded for in EoF will follow the same way as our current gear now. Coupled with the stupid new currency that depreciates along with the resetting of power back to 200 every 6 months and the “new gear eternal grind” using artifact power means your new hamster wheel is ready.
I think that is exactly what they are doing. I strongly urge anyone who feels the same way about these changes to wait and see on purchasing this DLC. Wait for those you trust to review it. Or if this is what you’re looking for then go ahead enjoy your gilded eternal hamster wheel. Kudos.

It's been really tricky to find some straight answers from the videos I've watched but that's the conclusion I made too. I'm also really sceptical - and I don't know if this is true but it's what I've heard - that you'll only be able to earn gear within your "current power range". Hence, if you run the hardest content in the game you still won't be able to boost yourself to end-game gear. Someone els in the party who has a higher power level than yourself might therefore earn better rewards than you, from running the same content. And tiers seem to be connected to power level so you wont even benefit from that. Additionally you'll be capped by the mid season cap the first half of the season so I'm not even sure if anyone can earn tier 5 then. Also, how do we get the new versions of current exotic weapons? I mean, I'm guessing that exotic engrams will still work the way they do - making it fairly easy to re-earn the gear. But what about the weapons? Just pull the new version from collections? And will exotic items also have tiers depending on our power levels? Alll in all i think it's going to be a mess in PvP playlist that utilize power levels - especially the latter half of seasons.

                  • Bungie have employed psychologists in the past to figure out how to keep player engagement high. They're mastering that. "You'll own nothing and be happy"...

                  • HEY THERE, i think it should be like this: armor: step 1 choose a FEW builds now that is a must have for you, survival, toolkit, dps, whichever is youer best build into loadout slots. step 2 open d2armorpicker and adjust your builds stats to whatever necessary, like the gamlers dodge nerf needing 70 class(recovery) for full refund. step 3 delete all armor that you are not using, since these uilds should be staying, and new armor is a must have step 4 look at combinations of gunner, paragon, grenadier etc type armors, and their stat slots. check in advance which type of armor to keep an eye on. step 5 once collected enough replace the old armor. weapons: look at their utility, chill clip rocket sidearm? multiple champ stun utility so keep, similar guns or weapons you are not using should be dismantled. check what you want to keep, like rare gun, specific perkk combinations, etc. and what you dont use. exotics: must obtain new ones for gunner etc. but for now check the current stat roll changes and dismantle until every exotic armor has only 1 or 2 of it in vault. exotic guns dismantled, you can pull from collections anyway, only craftale exotics should be kept in vault.

                  • It would prevent power creep kinda...there will always be a best option gear wise but a perpetual treadmill is not the way...gear needs to last for a while otherwise it won't be worth doing anything but the bare minimum and that will not drive any kind of motivation towards the game...I already don't engage with most of the game over needing a team for everything and once people break themselves grinding an activity they won't want to do it again killing any opportunities of getting anything done even though LFG...posts are drying up or requires "meta x clear KWTD"...

The question I have is how will the new seasonal weapons increase through season artifact be different than now? Currently you can get a bump on new origin traits. Numbers I have seen circulating seem to be more sky is falling than logical.
