Bungie favors account theft and hackers in the game!!!!!

To Whom It May Concern at Bungie, I am writing to you with deep concern and frustration regarding a serious security issue that has directly impacted my Destiny 2 account. Recently, my Bungie account, linked to Steam, was compromised. Most alarmingly, the intruder managed to link an Xbox account to my profile, which is now being used by a "cheater." This situation is having an extremely negative impact, both on my personal gaming experience and on the broader Destiny 2 community. The actions of this individual are ruining matches, creating a toxic environment, and affecting the integrity of the game. What's even more frustrating is that, due to Bungie's current policies, I find myself unable to unlink this Xbox account from my profile. This effectively means I am a hostage in a situation I did not cause, one that is actively harming me. Complicit in Injustice? Bungie's inaction in this case, and the rigidity of your policies, force me to consider whether you are becoming indirectly complicit in the actions of this "cheater." By failing to provide me with a way to resolve this problem – a problem you yourselves have created with your limitations – you are allowing a third party to abuse your system and, ultimately, harm your most loyal players. It is a unique situation to Bungie that account unlinking policies act against the victim of a theft. A Clear Warning I want to be very clear: if a prompt and effective solution to unlink this Xbox account is not provided, I will be forced to take more drastic measures. This includes, but is not limited to, publicizing my experience on social media and community forums, as well as exploring other legal avenues to protect my rights as a consumer. Bungie's reputation as a company that cares about its players is at stake. I understand the importance of security and fraud prevention, but current policies, in this particular instance, are working against me. I feel completely helpless, and my experience with Destiny 2, a game to which I have dedicated time and passion, is being severely diminished. I strongly urge you to review my case and provide a solution that allows me to immediately unlink this Xbox account from my Bungie profile. It is crucial that you provide me with a way to regain full control of my account and ensure that my data and gaming experience are not compromised by third parties. Thank you in advance for your urgent attention to this matter, and I look forward to a swift and effective resolution.

Sorry to hear that's what's happening. I'll try to shed some insight on the Security aspect. If there is any account takeover's they do rely specifically on whatever platform service it is as Bungie.net doesn't store actual login credentials - they used saved authentication tokens for third party websites, which simply validates if it's correct or not correct and doesn't store any actual credentials. This has been the case for many, many years you can refer to items below : https://www.bungie.net/en/forums/post/61302338?showBanned=1&path=1 https://www.bungie.net/en/forums/post/60334936?showBanned=1&path=1 https://www.bungie.net/en/forums/post/59758836?showBanned=1&path=1 https://www.bungie.net/en/forums/post/10622004?showBanned=1&path=1 Anyone can always review Bungie's Account Security Guide including information on Compromised Accounts. If someone actually gets access to an account, I would review other security measures through the Platform Account, updating Software, Session/Cookies Browser and extensions, potential downloads and staying away from fishy websites and unknown links, staying away from "cracks/hacks/cheats" etc. There are a number of security tools that can be enabled on accounts now days, including Microsoft and Sony PSN supporting all the way up to Digital and Physical Hardware Security Keys without using Passwords at all for authentication. Ultimately, it is on each user to setup their own security measures for all their accounts they're linking. Bungie is going to follow the policy that is setup within their company, and the only way to prove to Bungie that you are the genuine owner is being able to authenticate all accounts in your setup, there is no way around this.

  • Unfortunately there is nothing Bungie can do. They do not store our login information. Account security is our responsibility.

You've never been able to unlink acct that you didn't have access to. The security of your acct is your responsibility, not Bungies. Use 2FA and don't use the same password on different accts. Bungie has no way of unlinking that acct.

    • Good community, in view of the fact that they do not think that it was real what I spong, I communicate that I have been trying to mediate with Bungie to correct this problem that arose from the Steam platform and that later an Xbox user not authorized with the ID of "Homemarlin27442" was added. As you can see in my profile, That Xbox account has no relationship with my other profiles and less with Steam's active profile. If you visit that ID "Homemarlin27442" in Xbox, you will only have the Destiny 2 and on the dates on which identity theft 19/05/2025 occurred. I also received a report from a Bungie user "ZeroFooled#6308" Alerting the traps that were being committed in the PVP of the game. Even so, Bungie does not help solve a problem of identity theft. I attach the confirmation test by Steam of identity theft and its recovery. I hope the community understands that there are ways to steal identities that one cannot avoid. Greetings and have the understanding that it can happen to any of you. Forgive my English, I am Spanish and I use the translator, I hope you understand my situation.

As you can see, this Xbox account does not bought any DLC, nor does it have created characters. You are using my Steam profile to commit inflations in the game and cause a ban of my account. I also report to the Xbox platform the ID "Homemarlin27442" by traps in the Destiny 2 game, so that Xbox itself closed that account and did not cause the closure of my Steam account. If the community could help me report this ID "Homemarlin27442" on the Xbox platform. It would be the only way to avoid a closure of my account. I would appreciate any help.

First, I'd like to start by saying how sorry I am if this is legit and of no fault of your own doing. I'd hate to be in your shoes right now if that's the case. Okay, moving on...
Recently, my Bungie account, linked to Steam, was compromised.
Rather than stating the obvious, I'll choose to be more productive. How was your account compromised? And I don't simply mean the end result (which is what you're complaining about) but, more specifically, what steps did you take to safeguard your account and how have they failed. In other words, please try to help us understand you, when you say "This effectively means I am a hostage in a situation I did not cause". The keyword being "cause". What caused this? And please, at least be honest with yourself even if you choose not to be honest with us (to be clear, I'm not saying you're lying). Heck, you don't even have to inform us...just be honest with yourself. Do you bare any responsibility here? IMPORTANT: I'd highly caution you to choose your words more carefully than this:
I want to be very clear: if a prompt and effective solution to unlink this Xbox account is not provided, I will be forced to take more drastic measures. This includes, but is not limited to, publicizing my experience on social media and community forums, as well as exploring other legal avenues to protect my rights as a consumer.
Threats may come with some very serious consequences. Don't let your emotions get the best of you, especially in today's world. Finally, in response to:
It is crucial that you provide me with a way to regain full control of my account and ensure that my data and gaming experience are not compromised by third parties.
In a world full of liars and thieves, etc., you should have a little more consideration for the meaning of the word"trust." I mean, for all we know (note: Bungie may have better ways to find out), you could be the hacker trying to gain access to someone else's account. Do you see my point? As for 3rd parties, which appears to be the culprit here, do you happen to know which 3rd party tool, app, website, or otherwise that you used that could have lead to this? And do you have any proof to back up your reason for believing it was a 3rd party at all. Thanks for your response. Answering my questions (even if you keep the answers between you and Bungie) should help you in resolving this issue. Again, I'm terribly sorry if this is legitimately little/no fault of your own. I do hope, however, that you realize you share at least some responsibility in this because it's ultimately up to you to protect your account. Best of luck, guardian.
