I heard that with the new weapon tiers coming out it's basically going to be a new form of Sunsetting for our weapons. Forcing us to need newer ones to even be able to benefit from the new tier system. I tried looking this up but obviously with how the media has been centered on other events from the past few weeks I can't seem to find anything. I'm REALLY hoping this isn't true. I want to use my Bray Tech Winter Wolf or other weapons of mine that I've had forever. With the fact we still don't have new ways to re-earn old weapons it means we'll either be forced to play with a lower end weapon or give up what fits us to use a new weapon we don't like. I don't want to go back to not being able to use stuff like my Winter Wolf or other weapons. I STILL WANT MY RINGING NAIL BACK PLEASE
So, I wanted to know if anyone has any other info on this. Like there's a special way of upgrading tiers with Prisms or something that wasn't mentioned. I understand Bungie wants to bring back a reason to loot and such, but why can't you do that without weapons. Like we need AR platforms to upgrade out ARs, Scouts to upgrade Scouts. Man, bring back materials so we have a reason to do Patrols again instead of just to laze around.

Been saying it for months… glad to see some are coming around ti the reality…

I think it would serve us well to take a step back and consider what will be found on Tier 5 weapons but not on Tier 3 (the latter of which the have apparently been compared to current MWed and Enhanced weapons): • Holofoils and (sometimes) Added Particle Effects on Kill: While we like to joke that Fashion is the true end game of Destiny, having a gun that another player can immediately identify as Tier 5 without having to inspect your loadout because it has a special animated skin, or being able to cause a spray of Dawning Cookies to erupt from an opponents noggin when you score that head shot in Crucible is nothing more than a bit of fun or an attempt to flex on others; neither have a meaningful impact on gameplay and as such these “benefits” of Tier 5 weapons don’t appreciable contribute to any sense of Sunsetting. • Additional Perks in Columns Three and Four: Because we can only equip one weapon Perk per Column at a time the fact that Tier 5 weapons drop with three Perks in the 3rd and 4th Columns does not directly impact combat effectiveness. It is however a rather substantial QoL change for those who put forth the time/effort to earn Tier 5 weapons as having more Perk options per drop should should (hopefully) in the short term mean less time spent chasing one’s desired Perk combinations and in the long term lead to a decrease in Vault clutter (as one continues playing they increase their chances of finding a combination of Perks that allows them to replace two or even three variations of a gun with a single item). Reduced Vault clutter in turn allows for greater leeway in allowing players to realistically keep the items they store in their Vaults on the basis of posterity alone. If this particular change counts as Sunsetting then it is at least a positive form of Sunsetting. • Enhanced Barrels, Enhanced Mags, Enhanced Origin Traits: Set aside the small endorphin rush you get when you see those little yellow circles lovingly embracing the Perks on your (Adept) Summoner; what is the benefit to having Enhanced Perks in the first place? Generally speaking, a rather small increase to performance: an extra 1 second of active buff time, a 0.5 second decrease in refresh delay, one to three fewer bullets necessary to activate an effect, a five to ten point boost to reload or handling. We should fully expect Enhanced Barrels, Mags and Origin Traits to exhibit similarly small benefits over their unEnhanced versions. Even taken altogether alongside a full Masterwork and Enhanced Perks in columns 3 and 4, the situations in which these (presumably) small benefits will be the determining factor between success and failure will most assuredly be few and far between except in the very sweatiest of content. Those who generally play within a given range of difficulties with which they are comfortable and seldom seek to challenge themselves should quickly realize that Tier 5 weapons will be aspirational gear rather than must-have necessities to remain competitive. Those who already have the mindset that they absolutely must have the very best combinations of rolls and stats possible will likely replace as much of their Vaulted gear with Enhanced analogs as soon as possible, but I would suggest this group constitutes a considerable minority of the player base. - The introduction of Tier 5 weaponry appears to provide for some fairly restrained differences in moment-to-moment combat effectives over Tier 3. Compare this to the actual, officially recognized, Sunsetting that was enacted with the launch of Shadowkeep in which gear of a certain vintage had its Light Level capped, meaning the disparity between old and new gear grew over time as the recommended Light Level for Activities increased with the release of each new DLC and Season. Equipping a single piece of Sunset gear during Season of the Undying would have a much smaller negative impact to the player compared to equipping the same single piece of Sunset gear during Season of Defiance; players had to swap out to newer gear to avoid suffering an active penalty, rather than to enjoy a modest improvement. As today’s MWed and Enhanced weapons will reportedly be the rough equivalent of Edge of Fate’s Tier 3 weapons, there isn’t any reason to expect the sort of ever-growing disparity to develop between them and Tier 5 weapons as occurred between Sunset and Infuseable weapons. As such, based on what we know right now, I don’t believe the two situations to be on a par with one another. (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

the new system is not sunsetting, you can still use ALL your gear in end game content with 0 problems, but the new guns and armors at tier 5 will be better to encourage players to get the new loot, especially armors.
-
1. It is a new form of sunsetting 2. No one is forcing you 3. The best weapons now will likely be more than capable of completing all the content in the game

Edited by Tall: 5/26/2025 2:32:08 PMThe obvious answer is yes. It’s a further push forward than the current enhanced/non-enhanceable weapons that we have now. How often do you see players using non-enhanced weapons? Sure, they’re still “useable” but they’re simply not as good as the alternative. It’s a way for Bungie to sell you the same guns you’ve owned before but with “new” traits to keep you on the treadmill. As they’ve always done.

So everything should stand still?
-
Yeah I feel you but what if they brought out a shiny braetech werewolf all cool looking and golden with even better perks?
