Nightstalker Is Bad (Outside Crucible)

So, the entire Void Hunter subclass is centered on being Invisible as a "support" buff to your allies and youself. But here's the problem: Invisibility completely removes you from the fight, unlike every single other Subclass buff. You cannot perform any offensive actions, or the buff will immediate be self-removed, which is again, unlike every other subclass buff. You can't even Blink or Finisher without it breaking. Invisibility also doesn't stop enemies from attacking "at" you, and you can still be "seen" if you sprint, double jump, or dodge. The buff is decent for yourself in hard content, but it's a terrible support ability, because we aren't cowering at the sight of a boss in GMs anymore. Unlike other support Subclasses, Dawnblade and Sentinel for example, Nightstalker has basically 0 offensive capabilities without an exotic, unless you consider Stylish Executioner (which is designed in a really awkward way, and weaken punches don't even count as "powered" melees), as offensive, but it still pales in comparison to the incredible Aspects that these other subclasses get. Snare Bomb is for utility only, but has been drastically nerfed due to PvP, and it's the only available melee ability. Deadfall is great for your team, but doesn't help you a ton without an exotic for fast regen. Quiver is in a weird spot where it's trying to be Deadfall, but can't, and the damage is awful. Spectral Blades has awful hit registration, poor duration (because of PvP nerfs), and mid damage to even weak enemies. All in all, the subclass has bad abilities, bad support, bad aspects, and is centered on a bad subclass buff.

  • I'd love to see something that gives an overshield on dodge instead of going invisible.

  • I mean, clearing waves of ads with your super helps the team quite a bit in tough situations. It blinds, weakens and makes it easy to clear them all if you target a beefy target. You get rewarded invis for putting some work in if using Stylish and On the Prowl. And it doesn’t have team support? Trapper’s Ambush makes anyone, and yourself, invis as does Prowl. Yes, Void Hunter needs some variety when it comes to melees, and more unique Aspects but, in no way is the subclass bad outside of PvP. It’s been a monster in crucible because of how they designed On the Prowl, buffed the hell outta RDMs and handed us a pulse that puts the game on easy mode for no tradeoff. My whole kit supports my team in harder content and that’s where it shines the most. A more offensive playstyle is there in the kit, Quiver and Spectral Blades offer that. Quiver does damage and Spectrals is for the players who want to be up close and personal with the enemy. Shadowshot offers the more passive playstyle with quite a bit of payoff as you make orbs and wipe out the ads. So no, Nightstalker isn’t only good in PvP.

  • Buff Spectral Blade and rework Shadowshot and it'll be good imo. I only ever use void with Gyrfalcons and Word of Crota or recently, RDM + TLW and Unworthy. Otherwise, prismatic SS with Mask of Fealty and Palindrome + No Land Beyond.

    • Void Hunter is literally one of the strongest classes in PvE. What?

    • The idea that nightstalker is bad is crazy. It has survivability, crowd control, debuffs, orb generation, and even an automatic reload when using suppressor grenades and one of the fragments.

      • The problem with nightstalker, in BOTH modes, is it's overreliance on invis. There is not a single other subclass in the game that is so one note. Every single aspect that nightstalker has mentions invis. On every other subclass in the game I could find you at least one aspect that doesn't tie in to it's "main" subclass verb. Usually more. But nightstalker is doomed to live and die by how good invis is in the current meta. If it's good, nightstalker is great. If it's bad, nightstalker is the worst subclass in the game.

        • I think the problem isn’t that Nightstalker is necessarily weak in PvE. It’s just very boring to play, because the whole subclass revolves around invisibility and being invisible takes you out of the fight for a prolonged time unlike other survivability tools like Overshields or Restoration, that can keep you in the fight. Invisibility basically halts the fight which is just incredibly boring. In my opinion they should add some better functionality to On The Prowl so that in PvE (strictly PvE), attacking the target from stealth does significantly more damage to them. That way you have a playstyle that actually promotes using Invis more often rather than just using to escape. Also Möbius Quiver needs a significantly Damage buff. It should sit a little below Twilight Arsenal given how similar the supers are. TA is around 544k so Möbius should be around 500k.

        • Invis isn't offensive or support other than very specific circumstances like gorgons or select gms its meant for survivability give you a moment to regen and your buff is called smokebomb dive weakens and cloaks your just bad at being a nightstalker

          • Could it use some buffs? Sure - it's far from bad though. As a slightly above average player, helps me complete most end game activities.

            •
Unlike other support Subclasses, Dawnblade and Sentinel for example, Nightstalker has basically 0 offensive capabilities without an exotic.
Guns, guns are your offensive capabilities. That’s the whole point. I could run no exotic, I could use zero fragments and aspects, and still kick azz with the right guns and mods. Abilities are an extra, shooting your gun is the main attraction in this game. Spamming abilities requires zero skill, and after a time, it gets boring, imo.
