This video is worth watching

Honest ex bungie dev, very well spoken & confident publicly - unlike most, gives his opinions on marathon but drops a few bombs about destiny & bungie, both good & bad. If you don't wanna watch >
A lot of Devs didnt agree with dungeons being paid content - they were supposed to be added as a thank you to fans for sticking around. He's not played destiny since the money push got upped after witch queen - doesn't agree with it & destiny was his go-to game forever Don't trust content creators who are sponsored, they're absolutely told what they can & can't say & views are heavily selfish, bad views affect sales so they can't say bad things, hence paying them to lock down opinions. Destiny franchise is done (for bungie) regarding player growth & income & the studios future absolutely depends on marathon succeeding, they could disappear if it fails, & quickly. Says bungie absolutely need a new audience & income so marathon though risky was absolutely needed. Says the last few years have really bad for bungies image & they know it.

Different source but thenmarathin or bust statement is backed up by Jason Schrierer & Jeff grubb - also the leaks by a different dev who said destiny's end date is 2027 lines up with edge of fate being a 2yr story so ending 2027. I think they genuinely don't plan for after that because of the weight on marathons success so I'm not convinced it ends in 2027 - but that's the studio feeling right now, 2027 the end.
I found this very interesting because he's worked there & knows how everything works, he seem like a nice guy with no axe to grind just talking the truth. A lot of what he says may seen obvious or already known but seeing an ex employee say it adds weight imo. • This was moved because too many eyes would have seen it in the Destiny 2 topic.

  • What I'm effectively hearing from both this vid and from criticisms regarding the Alpha, it sounds like as it is currently, Marathon will have a very quick:short lifespan following the release if they cannot meet up to player expectations, provide good competition with the existing market, and provide quality gameplay justifying the price tag. A so-so Extraction shooter with a mediocre launch will not retain a healthy:committed player pop and there will be no interest in buying whatever micro-transactions/cosmetics if there's not a strong want to invest into the game. Judging by what that ex-dev was saying, if the alpha feedback was far removed from what the devs wanted to hear and the progress made beyond the Alpha hasn't pushed progress nearly as far as they'd expect they'd want/need, the leadership will push the development into overtime and that can have repercussions if the devs get burned out too quickly. They'll need to do some serious changes because the last thing they'd want is for the game to launch like how Halo Infinite did in a barebones state. That'll be a DOA-scenario.

    • Live service games are so difficult to launch and sustain - Bungie has a proven track record (despite everything). If D2 ends in 2027, that’s 13 years of Destiny. Even if Marathon flops, I could see Sony, or another investor, wanting a Destiny 3, or “the next Destiny” (a different IP).
Where’s the video?
