Is this Destiny or Disney?
Is anyone else completely turned off by this Star Wars crossover?
I don’t know about you all, but I find the idea of building a whole DLC around a Star Wars sponsorship incredibly disappointing. I’m here to play Destiny not participate in a Disney themed event. Crossovers are one thing when they’re limited to cosmetics or small events, but centering an expansion around another franchise feels like the game is slowly losing its identity.
It’s starting to feel like Destiny is taking a page from Fortnite whoever pays enough gets to shape the game’s direction. And that’s not what made this universe special in the first place. We’ve got decades of rich lore, original characters, and complex storylines. Why are we sidelining all that for another company’s IP?
This just seems like a strange move, and to me, it cheapens the experience. Curious to hear what others think are you excited about this Star Wars content, or do you feel like it’s a step in the wrong direction?

It makes me sick to see this game turn into an IP-rental crossover platform. Even Skyrim mods with Thomas the Tank Engine look more down-to-earth than Renegade.

1 ReplyIm not big on it, I like star wars as much as anyone but destiny already has proven that it has the ability to create a fantastic and totally original universe on its own at its best points, they dont need any creative inspiration from star wars. They can say its inspiration all they want but to me it screams bungie and disney putting their heads together to see how much cash they can sap. The make or break for me will be how much it sticks to the destiny identity. If its genuinely just a space western DLC thats cool but overt star wars references will get old QUICK.

What's not to like? Star Wars is awesome and we're all here because we like Destiny gameplay. I think they should go all in and re-create SWTOR with Destiny gameplay.

My problem with this is that it pulls me out of the world. It's like seeing a Cylon Raider in The Expanse. When I'm absorbed in a strike or such, seeing a Stormtrooper jus breaks the immersion. I think I'll be putting the game down very soon. New expansions will cost more money for less content? And lean heavily on cosmetic crossover? Each to their own & I hope pll enjoy what comes next, but I don't think I'll be here for it.

I'm with OP on this, I genuinely was interested in this new year until they showed this. It feels like a cheap Fortnite cash grab, which works for a game like Fortnite because there is no lore, but Destiny is carried by its story. Why would a part of Earth's past history be an integral part of its future? If the explanation for how this is part of the Fate story line is just the Nine are weird, then they can just use that logic to sell you any IP willing to fork over money to be a new expansions focus. Really worried what this means for Destiny's future.

It kills me that they want to bring back the sense of mystery. That’s what I want. Yet I’m running around next to Blanka, an AC assassin, and a storm trooper. Star Wars is iconic but the idea of mystery returning is lost when you theme it around the most familiar thing ever.

5 RepliesYou have no idea what it is besides there being a lightsaber and a blaster that looks like Solo's. Maybe lets wait and see what it even is first? Just a thought. Not saying it's going to be great, but we have next to nothing to go off unless you just vehemently hate light sabers. Bungie: we want to bring mystery back to Destiny Also Bungie: *themes an entire expansion around the most familiar IP on the planet Star Wars is iconic, sure. This just feels silly though.

I know. I want bungie destiny armor designs. Like in d1 I loved the Crotas end armor, vog, worm and kings fall. That’s why I put in hours in destiny. All d1 trials armor was awesome. Like d2 doesn’t have that. I don’t see people running d2 raid armor. I will say d2 trials armor is ok some of it. The edge of fate doesn’t entice me. I don’t know if it’s because I’m older or because I know the cycle already. Literally remove sbmm and I’ll be a good boy. -

Yall are tripping for no reason. Renegades isn't actually about Star Wars or anything in it. The Lightsaber sound and the weapon and environmental aesthetic pays homage to Star Wars. The saga is still about the Nine. -

The latest ones kinda push the boundaries a lot, since since we are now we get straight up characters with basically zero changes. To see a game that has such a rich universe slowly following the playbook of other service games it's a bit sad since Destiny always did its own thing. And now seeing this expansion which lives in a very weird place... it's not great. I'm not surprised there's a lot of apprehension in general, considering we've seen stuff like Magic doing small collaborations here and there now every other set of theirs is gonna be based on a known IP.
