Whether it be through destiny 3 or whatever expansion comes next just straight up resetting everything in the game, but something has to happen.
This is a looter shooter game, with no replayability because all of the things that make a looter shooter replayable... don't exist in destiny, at least not anymore.
The game's been out so long that everyone has everything. There's no reason to play because there's nothing new to get. Crafting was the biggest mistake for this game but the bigger problem is genuinely just due to the game being around for so long and how easy it's been made to earn things.
Legendaries are rares, and exotics are just legendaries at this point. There's nothing worth striving towards. Nothing is difficult to obtain and the only things that are semi difficult to obtain (adepts, raid exotics, etc etc) aren't even better than what we have normally. There's no reason to go for adept weapons because it's not like I'm getting something drastically different compared to what I get out of the regular version or what I get out of a different craftable weapon. And then most of the raid exotics are straight up dog poo.
Loot in a looter shooter needs to actually feel rewarding to get. It needs to feel earned in some capacity. It doesn't feel that way in destiny currently.
And maybe this is a scalding hot take... but good loot should be hard to earn! Exotics should not be some plentiful harvest that I can just spam out without even thinking twice about it. Like it's gotten to the point where my engram inventory is JUST exotic engrams because I have zero use for them.
All that and the removal of any power grind? Why play? The only times you should be playing destiny at this point is:
1. When an expansion drops so you get the expansion story
2. Towards the end of the expansion year so you can get all of the seasonal stories at once and catch up to them.
The in between means nothing. No new exciting loot, no drastically BETTER loot than what is already out there and owned, no power to grind to even get your character stronger, there's nothing.

Crafting is the only reason I’d do many of the activities as much as I did.
-
This game needs a way to reward sherpas more
-
Nah it doesn't.
-
Maybe this is a hot take, but I play the game to have fun.

I agree with 100% of this, except for the first half. Also, I think the second half is 99.9% wrong. The remaining 0.1%, would be correct, if you changed it entirely, though. Also, you should write longer sentences, but use less words. It's confusing.

I'm just here to laugh at the loser in the comments who thinks you don't have enough GM's to have an opinion.
Guys a giant dork
Primary Brick Requiem
I guess Marathon is a game by definition - old
The game is gonna get a reset. Actually, the whole company is gonna get a reset when Marathon pulls everything under and Sony comes knocking and ask "where's my money?" -
Edited by Sky_hawk: 5/5/2025 7:06:14 PMBungo made an enormous mistake… by NOT creating D3 instead they put all of their eggs into Marathon 😂 an extraction shooter that nobody want to play… and if that game flops… it will be the end of Bungo as Sony won’t stomach another major flop… like Concord

D3 was the only path forward, the opportunity is gone now, and this studio will likely die.

Edited by xbroggiex: 5/5/2025 1:30:53 AMThis just reads like someone who has no clue what the actual issues with the loot system are. Crafting was not the issue, nor is it the "biggest mistake". Exotics shouldn't be rare unless they only offer gimmicks or small bumps to power ala D1. In D2 they are basically the defining item for a build. They should change their tier 1-5 system to use the rarities instead of some name tag (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary and a new fifth one Mythic.) making individual loot that is stuck at a single tier/rarity is a waste of time especially with how Destiny's loot is designed. The power grind is useless if your progression doesn't mean anything other than a difficulty gate/imposition on activities you were already engaging with before. You either should be able to overlevel or reach the level of said activities(I don't like this imo) or just remove the system entirely and have set difficulties with self imposed modifiers(what they are sorta doing.)
There's no reason to play because there's nothing new to get.
I'm still going for new stuff because it offers a new niche or interesting gameplay. It sounds like you want some form of ARPG loot system where you grind for "better" and "better" gear. Destiny doesn't and can't work like that. Also, here is a shocking take I play the game to have fun and don't give two shits about some "loot chase" because I like shooting the aliens.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 5/6/2025 1:04:20 AMI’m actually playing significantly less because the walking back of crafting(and no focusing) means no bad luck protection anymore. At all. Getting lucky right out of the gate on a drop feels great…for about 5 minutes. There’s no sense of accomplishment. Not getting what you want before something gets power crept/replaced with a better version doesn’t feel good at all. Crafting had its issues(free weekly red borders was obviously a bad idea), but the weapon chase is just… boring, again. There’s nothing compelling about it. Weapon drops aren’t suddenly exciting again “because RNG.” The lack of bad luck protection hinders experimentation which is a, or even THE, cornerstone of build crafting. And I truly think this game is MUCH better when it leans more into build crafting than it does RNG slot machine. The seasonal model got stale but at least I had stuff to unlock and experiment with on demand while I chased the many other RNG weapons. Now it feels like 90% chase and 10% actually using the weapon rolls we want. I just don’t find it as fun as it was for the past 3 years prior to Revenant. This change nuked my desire to play. It caused the ONE thing you REALLY don’t want to instill in players for a game like this. Apathy. It spreads like a disease and it has spread thought my friends/clan lists and the multi clan discord I’m in. Even the people that thought the game would be ok despite just burning bad luck protection and targeting agency to the ground by removing both crafting AND focusing simultaneously are like “just let me craft it” at this point.

Crafting weapons was the only reason l even bothered to run the raids. The reward system in this game is shocking at the best of times when running certain activities. If they ever release a D3, then good luck to them. Not sure how many people will come back to the game by the time if and when that releases

I swear, you guys confuse "looter shooter" with "endless gambling" and what you actually crave are slot machines that are rigged to never hit. You never want the dopamine of "maybe it will be good this time" to end, so any time there's a way to actually get what you want, you're mad about it. You don't want god rolls. You don't even want exclusivity. What you want is to chase the dragon forever. Gambling addiction is a serious problem and I'd rather your struggles with it don't impact my experience.
-
I disagree with most of your takes here like crafting being bad, but I do agree the game does need something new. The same loop of grinding a boring seasonal activity for another 10 years is already causing me burnout. The game isn’t difficult it’s just tedious at this point and the stuff that’s labeled as difficult is so overtuned it’s just bs instead of fun (like DR stacking and still getting my health nuked). Then on top of that most grind sessions you have nothing to show for it because rng is so bad and loot is so stingy (matador farming and season of revenant farming people know what im talking about). The game needs to start innovating, respecting players time/be more rewarding, and actually having an actual challenge instead of being overtuned.
-
I'm guessing you aren't burdened by an overabundance of things to spend your time on.
-
Go play verity with 5 people who’ve never done it before and then tell them the game needs more difficulty and complexity. I’ll wait.
-
The people asking for more crafting don’t even understand Destiny’s gameplay loop at it’s core.

Edited by JocyBossy: 5/5/2025 11:48:06 PM
Crafting was the biggest mistake for this game.
This is false, and data proves it. The two worst seasons in Destiny history regarding player count were Revenant and Heresy (the two seasons after craftables were removed). It seems like you(most elitist) want it to die faster than it currently is.
-
I don't think it needs a full reset, just activate the missing parts, like crafting and maybe destinations. But what they really should to is to remove all the things that not really belong in the game, like stupid mechanics (kill an enemy and it drops an icon, find the icon and shoot the icon-stuff), and all this "potion"-systems. They should concentrate on the core of the game, it is a looter shooter, so concentrate on environments, story, loot, and not time-delaying stuff that belongs more in a RPG-game.

Edited by damascus: 5/5/2025 7:56:15 PMWe do have resets gradually over time - it’s just not forced: It’s called new weapons and deleting older ones that are not as good anymore. Aka deleting an old Fatebringer for the new one, etc. It’s much better to do it this way than a hard reset where your stuff is just deleted automatically. You have way more control the current way, and can choose to keep older stuff for sentimental reasons: such as your first raid weapon, memories attached, cosmetic-affinity or just plain fun with it. We don’t need a sunset, if that’s what is being suggested. I would actually suggest the opposite and say we need more vault space to keep more stuff we earned.

100% agree. Exotics come out of paid passes and pre-orders, losing even more value. A lot of players either forgot, or weren’t around for the old chase of Exotics or perfect rolls. Seeing the thing you’ve been hunting with your friends drop after weeks or months was infinitely satisfying and a reason to keep coming back. Unfortunately, the game isn’t made in a way to chase loot anymore. You’re not chasing the loot, you’re chasing a red border around it. A part of that feels like it comes from the over complication of build crafting and elitist mindsets where you HAVE to have X item to play a raid or get booted. So Bungie didn’t want players to feel left out of raids since they couldn’t obtain a rare item so made everything feel too common to get. Borderlands 4 is lapsing on their lootplaooza idea of constantly giving players exactly what they want and making loot rare again. Hopefully one day Bungie does the same, but it’s not likely.

Should have went for Destiny 3 back at Beyond Light. That would have left D2 intact with all original content still accessible, no need for the content vault.

I agree, j have been saying this for a while: remove random rolls, bring back static/curated rolls and make them hard to get, through achievements and whatnot. The Vanguard system (Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit) is outdated and provides no real benefit other than intrinsic/origin perks, which can just be added to all weapons. It's actually hilarious that there's the 2 biggest looter shooters in the world that Bungie can copy. Warframe and Borderlands. Bungie can just make every weapon in the game unique, remove the archetypes, and the incentive to play will increase by at least 500%. However, I don't think it needs a reset. They just need to remove open worlds, think about it. Open worlds don't serve for much except for some quest steps and campaigns, they don't provide good loot.

Destiny 3. It needs to be a prequel. Set back in time. There is so much there you could work with. To name a few When the traveler first came. The first guardian. All the history and lore could be playable. Meet all the characters of the past and fight with/against them. So much opportunity
